Happy July 4th, America!!  Today, I want to share with you about celebrations, cookies and home improvement.

This is a different type of July 4th for Mr. B and me.  We have recently spent time with family, so everyone is going their own directions.

However, it is still a good day to celebrate all that is important about this country I love so much.

Despite what all of the noise says throughout media, this is a special, grand land and today is worthy of celebration.

That does not make me an extremist of any kind….it makes me patriotic and determined to preserve all that is good about my homeland.

We grow stronger by acknowledging the good in this republic and the bad we need to learn from. 

I hope those of you who are not American feel the same about your own country.

This little American angel originally belonged to Mr. B’s mom…I bring her out every July 4th and Memorial Day.

May we always celebrate this day.

Now, what about our celebrations, cookies and home improvement…allow me to explain.

CELEBRATIONS, COOKIES AND HOME IMPROVEMENT:  THE COOKIES

Recently I wrote about making cookies for the grandchildren to take to the beach.

I apologize that I did not share the recipe….of course, someone asked that I do.

So, here goes:

WHITE AND MILK CHOCOLATE COOKIES

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 12 oz bag of your favorite milk chocolate chips, and 1 12 oz bag of white chocolate chips

Stir together your dry ingredients and set aside.  Mix the soft butter with both sugars until well blended.  Add the eggs and vanilla and mix.  Stir in the dry ingredients a little at a time.

Then stir or mix with your mixer both bags of the chips.  Yes, it is a lot of chips, but oh so good.  

I put the dough in the refrigerator for at least an hour.  Then cook them at 375 for 12-13 minutes.

These are GRANDSON APPROVED!

We are celebrating with a little home improvement today.

It has been along time since we desired to have our back yard professionally landscaped, so when they said they could work us into the schedule on July 4, we said YES…we are in!

I cannot wait to see this finished, and maybe next summer I can add a pergola!

No matter how you are celebrating today or if you are in another country, chose to enjoy the day!

I am so glad I purchased this linen top at Talbots…I get compliments every time I wear it and It is so light and cool for our heat right now.

Also, this blouse is so flattering…the design is magic if you want to slim down your look and it is big time on sale.

  1. Those cookies remind me of the recipe on the back of the Toll House bags of chocolate chips, which was my very favorite cookie, especially when eaten warm. Speaking of warm, it was so muggy for the fireworks last night, and ninety today. Pool time! We too are without family today, which is why I appreciate the friends we’ve made and the activity here at the condo. Unlike you, I don’t seem to hear much running down of America (maybe because I get almost all my news in print vs on tv), and it’s lovely to have a day celebrating all that’s good about our country. It is most definitely not partisan political to remember that we fought for independence and built a nation thanks to the sacrifices of our fellow Americans.

  4. Happy 4th of July! On this hot muggy day, I will be eating a hot dog with my neighbors at mini cookout sponsored by our HOA. Yes, I know that hot dogs are bad for me, but they are a part of our American traditions for the 4th. I too wish to celebrate the good that is our country & pray that we learn from our mistakes just as we should do in each of our own lives. Your cookies sound oh so delicious. I love white chocolate & milk chocolate & putting them together equals YUM!

  8. Happy Independence Day, Pamela and thank you for the important reminder of all that we have to be thankful for. I love your flag photo, the perfect ensemble for a Texas Fourth! Even though I am only working on packing up my mom‘s house today, I wore navy and white and added red toenail polish. When I take my mom her dinner tonight at the nursing home I’ll bring Stars & Stripes plates and napkins in case she is having a more cognizant day. Happy birthday month to both of us!
