STYLE TIPS: HOW TO STYLE A LONG TANK OVER PANTS

style tips

Today, I am taking you to the Karl Lagerfeld Paris department at Dillard’s.

This is the Karl Lagerfeld Paris Solid Cowl Neck Sleeveless Hardware Strap Detail Tank in a color called Calypso Coral.  (When I saw it, it looks more red to me than coral.)

The kimono here is the Karl Lagerfeld Paris Logo Printed Open Front Short Sleeve Kimono.

The pants are the Karl Lagerfeld Paris Sailor Button Detail High Waist Wide Leg Pants…in black.

Remember, this is a style challenge.  If you would not wear a look, then tell the woman who would how to style it.  What are the challenges here for that woman?

If you like long tanks over pants, here are some additional options:

STYLE TIPS – COBALT BLUE

Style Tips

It has certainly been a colorful summer in fashion.

I saw this cobalt blue display and just had to share it for those of you who love blue.

This is Chico’s Embellished Top in a beautiful color called Blue Grotto.

The necklace is the Blue & White Tassel Necklace.

Do you like the way this top is styled…have any style tips that you would prefer?

It is not the feature look, but I believe the color made it share worthy as second string.

  1. I really like this exactly as shown- wouldn’t change a thing.
But if blue/greens are your preferred color combinations you might simply switch up to a longer green silk tank with a blue /green short ruana. Equally nice!

  2. The sailor pants are adorable, but you can’t see them with the top untucked. I would prefer to see the top tucked in with the kimono perhaps ready to put on later in the evening so the unusual straps have their day.

  3. What a pretty tank. Love the straps. I’d swap out the black pants for a pair in cream. Rather than the printed kimono I’d like to see a sheer or open weave topper that would allow the straps to show. I’d forgo a necklace but would add some dangling earrings. A pair of strappy sandals and this outfit is ready to go out for the evening.

  4. I wish they would stop with all the puffed sleeves. I feel like they swallow me up.

  5. Thank you, Karl Lagerfeld, for three gorgeous pieces! If I were tall and willowy with warm undertones in the skin, I’d totally wear what’s on the mannequin! But, alas, I’m not. 🙂 So, I’d tuck that shirt into the CUTE sailor pants to shorten the proportions up top which works so much better with my petite frame. The button details on the pants would then show, giving some flattering lines around the middle to visually sculpt the figure. As a petite, I’d remove the oversized caftan. The tank has cute chain straps and a drapey neckline. It would need a strapless bra, but no necklace in my opinion. I’d accessorize with larger silver earrings that complement the visual weight of the chains and which would bring additional cool tones closer to my face. Add some dressy black platforms and a small black bag – maybe with a chain handle for repetition. This outfit is dressy! Head out for the night and have some fun!

  6. Unless you are a toothpick, the top is way too skinny. It helps elongate your shape from the front, but the side view would not be pretty. It also shows a lot of chest, which can be aging. So I would not style the top at all and would replace it with a shorter to – a white camp shirt might be nice with the sailor pants. I don’t like ruanas, but if you wanted to keep it, then a simple black or orange silky cami would give a more elegant vibe.

  7. Because I have a tummy, I don’t wear tops tucked in, and I have some sportier long tanks from Lands End that I wear regularly. I think with the more straight leg pants being shown nowadays, this look is more difficult to pull off. It can feel voluminous. Often, I will feel my proportions are off as well, as though I were cut in half. I remedy this with a (nearly) cropped third piece, usually more fitted, with the tank showing underneath. I would style this look with a short, fitted (maybe even shrunken) denim jacket. It could still read casual evening with dressy shoes and clutch, or day with athletic sandals or wedges and a tote. It does look to be a versatile garment of the kind I like to have in my closet.

  8. I’m not a fan of the Karl outfit. It seems so predictable and formulaic for mature women. I’d skip the outer wrap and look for a modern blazer or sheer black wrap. Happy Saturday.

  9. Love this look. I normally wouldn’t look at a kimono, but this is cute, .
the colors are what I usually wear…wouldn’t change anything..this would be a great option for a cruise dinner…I don’t have a Dillards anywhere near where I live, imagine I could go the online route……

  10. I can picture this on my tall thin granddaughters. They could carry this type of style. But agree with Linda that the topper in the print is not a go. A more sheer black one or a wrap would carry this to the evening event. Silver earrings, and silver clutch with black stacked heal sandals would complete this dressy outfit.

  11. I am not a billboard. I don’t wear items with logos on them, so the wrap is out for me. I do like the look; though having the shoulders covered is a shame.

  12. I like the style in the first image – to wear something even longer above the already long top. It gives the outfit more liveliness. 🙂
