Sunday Mornings at Home: Word of the Year Video Sunday Mornings at Home

Happy Sunday, everyone!  Welcome to Sunday Mornings at Home!  A weekly lifestyle post with a little of this and a little of that.

For most of us, this past week has been a cold one…yes, even in South Texas…and we have found little Tuxedo, our dog in a variety of places to stay warm.

Here, he is sitting by the fire and we really enjoyed doing this together this week…the fireplace is something used rarely in our home.

Today, in Sunday Mornings at Home, we have home decor, a recipe, accessories, birthdays, inspiration….and YOU!

So many media stories are reporting that people stop their resolutions by now.

I am energized by my resolve to be stronger in many areas of my life and because of my word, STRENGTH, I am enjoying January more than ever before.

I hope you are as well.

Thank you for being here…get your warm beverage and cozy spot, and let’s enjoy Sunday Mornings at Home.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME: WINTER HOME DECOR

Sunday Mornings at Home

As I said, we found Tux by the fire and under blankets!

But, we were not dealing with anything close to what many of you were dealing with.

Sunday Mornings at Home

New reader, Merrie, lives in Oregon and at her house she was dealing with ice and snow!

Thank you for sending the photo, Merrie, and allowing us to get a glimpse of winter at your house.

I know it can be destructive, but I also find it to be beautiful in many ways.

Sunday Mornings at Home

Next, we head over to Pat’s house.  She sent her winter home decor and it just looks so warm and cozy.

Pat wrote: “I’ve only recently started leaving out some of my Christmas pieces (that weren’t Christmas-specific) through January. I have three photos I would like to contribute. My focus is generally pinecones, snow-covered trees, and cream and white fabrics. I find it creates a nice transition from the all the color and sparkle of the holidays to a quieter season.”

Thanks to Merrie and Pat for sharing with us this week.  We love to have a glimpse into each other’s lives.

If you would like to send home decor, holiday decor (Valentine’s), recipes, outfits, mannequins….please send to over50feeling40@gmail.com.

Typically, I will share this in Sunday Mornings at Home.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME: SPEAKING OF VALENTINE’S DAY

Sunday Mornings at Home

Since I am building a charm bracelet for my granddaughter, I was excited to see James Avery Artisan Jewelry add these GATHERED HEARTS CHARMS to the Valentine’s collection.

Tiny hearts….big love from this Gigi.

You can see all of the lovely Valentine’s Gifts in the new catalog.

I love to shop for family at James Avery…Christmas included several James Avery gifts.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME: LOVE TO WEAR JOY

Sunday Mornings at Home

My precious friend, Cydney in Canada, sent me a few of her new creations at LOVE’S PURE LIGHT.

These lovely scarves (which feel luxurious) can be found online and in many fine boutiques.

She is so talented and has given me several ways to wear my JOY!  Thank you Cydney!

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME: FEATURE RECIPE

Sunday Mornings at Home

This week, I created my own take of a Taste of Home Recipe, GINGER STEAK FRIED RICE.

The only thing I added was some broccoli.  I just wanted more green and did not have the cabbage mix on hand.

I eat the cabbage mixes often, so they do not stay in the refrigerator long.

SUNDAY MORNINGS AT HOME: HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Sunday Mornings at Home

Happy Birthday to the amazing Mr. B…also known as Pappa Joe.

He is such a blessing…an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and professional….also quite a guitar player and runner.

We are gathering today to celebrate him!

Thank you for joining our community for Sunday Mornings at Home!  Please leave any thoughts or questions…stay warm, and always…..

Disclaimer:  I was provided product for this post, but the words are my own.

I was encouraged to explain more about my SHOPPING LINKS page and how to use it.  (In fact I just added a few new brands to the list)

I am an affiliate for many different brands and when you click on those brands and shop, then I receive a small commission.

This is such an important income for me and my family.

I have tried to include the brands most shopped by this audience, but sometimes I miss one of your favorites.

If you will tell me what you are shopping, then I can tell you if I am affiliate for them and give you that link…if it is not already on the page.

And remember to send your recipes, home decor or street style from where you are with pictures to over50feeling40@gmail.com.

Send to email and do not try to put in comments! YOU are the best.

  1. Happy birthday Mr. B!
I am also blessed with a wonderful husband know as dad and Pops trying to get back to being a pretty good runner😊.
    Have a wonderful gathering today!

  2. Thank you, Missy. My husband pushes through so much just so he can run. It is his passion.

  3. Happy Birthday to Mr B. I know you consider him to be a special blessing in your life. The winter decor photos are inspiring. I have trouble decorating for winter without it looking like Christmas. It is 9 degrees here. I think I need another cup of coffee. 😄 Have a joyous birthday celebration day!

  4. I have been meaning to purchase charm bracelets for my 2 11 year old granddaughters. The James Avery site has a downloadable measurement guide which includes a tape measure to get exactly the right size. Perfect! The 2 girls couldn’t be more different and I love for them to express their individuality. One has a birthday in April and I’ll download the tape measure and let her choose her bracelet and one charm to celebrate her 12 th birthday. Thanks for reminding me of James Avery! The weather here is cool with only a high of 68 so no pretty snow scenes from my neck of the woods!

  5. I am so glad you are seeing the benefits of James Avery. My 7 year old granddaughter loves her charm bracelet. You are so right that it is a great way to celebrate their individuality!

  6. Happy birthday to Mr. B!! ❤️ 🕯️ 🎂
Here in our home, we are thankful to have our power on after a week during the ice storm. No heat, no hot water, no lights…and we are trying to pack up for our move. It was so cold. You know, I kept thinking of the homeless struggling through this storm, and then, through our misery, I was so grateful for the roof over our head. It was an awful experience, but with God’s strength, we are stronger. God bless you all. 💕

  7. We are so blessed and often need to take time for gratitude. Thank you for being here.?

  8. Happy Birthday Mr. B.🎉🎂. Love James Avery jewelry. Fell in love with when I lived in San Antonio now I have to order or find something I want at Dillards. Your meal looks yummy. Stay warm looks like it’s warming up your way.

  9. Happy Birthday to Mr. B! Just out of curiosity, I’m a fan of James Avery and would like to start a charm bracelet for my 7 yr. old granddaughter. Which style bracelet did you choose?

  10. It’s fun to know others who share my birthday. Happy Birthday to your hubs. Have a wonderful day filled with love, family and friends.

  11. I have some Sunday morning comments and questions.

I just saw an article this morning about a study that says women may stay healthier when they add more plant protein. I was happy to hear that, as the extra protein I added last week after reading Forever Strong was plant protein.

How does your Amazon link work? Would you get credit for everything I buy from there?

How are you doing with your foot? Is the boot still causing the rest of your body pain? That happened to me, too, and I only had the boot for 3 weeks. When does it come off? When will you be able to drive? Will you do physical therapy?

  12. 🎂 Happy Birthday to Mr. B, and to Rhoda as well! I loved Merrie’s photo of beautiful Oregon snow, but sorry for the downed tree of course. As a southern Oregonian, we were spared the snow and ice this past week, though our Umpqua River several times has flirted with flood stage from all the extra rain. Your beef and ginger stir-fry will be on my menu this week with one adaptation I figured out as a good replacement for rice or noodles: fresh bean sprouts. Enjoy the birthday celebration today!

  13. Good Morning, from soggy California….Happy Birthday to your hubby. For winter decor, I kept the pinecones and twinkle lights in the copper pot on my fireplace hearth, but took away the Christmas balls. On my dining table, I kept the white fur runner, but swapped out Christmas for a long dough bowl filled with pomegranates, small pine cones, and small pomanders I made out of tiny oranges (cuties). This should last thru February….and I love getting a whiff of the spices from the pomanders…..a day of football ahead, still recovering from the nail biter game last night, go 9’ers!!

  14. A most Happy Birthday to your Mr. B! I hope that he enjoys the family gathering to celebrate another birthday! I’ve never needed much hoopla to celebrate a birthday but being remembered by others is certainly uplifting. I remember those gorgeous scarves from your Canadian friend. I’d have a difficult time picking one since they all are so beautiful but I seem to remember your selection being based on the thought of that particular scarf. I’m like Tux and have found myself often tucked under a blanket during these strangely cold days of the South. However, I’ve realized that I’d rather wear my winter clothing than my summer because I feel more dressed, if that is possible, when my body is more covered. I actually get to take my bandage off my foot tomorrow and bathe so I’m looking forward to that step in my healing so I’m sure you can appreciate that accomplishment!

  15. I am so glad Dillard’s carries James Avery…and they also have an excellent website. Thanks Linda.

  16. I went with the heart bracelet, because I thought she would really like it…and she did. She is very much a Princess. But I also knew that as she gets older we may want to do a different one. She has a James Avery Texas charm I gave her on a necklace and she wears that the most…so I considered the Texas bracelet, but she loves the hearts.

  17. Happy Birthday to you, Rhoda. We have several different 21st birthdays in our family in different months. We call it the 21 club!

  18. Hi Linlee, Here we go:
    1. You must talk to your doctor about the plant protein in regards to bone health. Also, make sure you are getting regular bone scans. I know this is controversial, but their are some who went that direction and regretted it. But we are all different and that is why I highly encourage you discuss your eating plan with your personal doctor. I eat both, and would have difficulty going with one or the other…but with my bone health improving my doctor said…just keep doing what you are doing.
    2. I only get credit for some Amazon purchases and I do not even know how to explain that…you have motivated me to find out more.
    3. I see my foot surgeon on Feb 1 and will find out when the boot comes off. Since I had two surgeries and a couple of setbacks, he wanted me in the boot longer. I am driving, because the boot is on my left foot and there will be no need for physical therapy, but a BIG need to get back into walking and working out. I will know more about all of this on Feb. 1.
    I hope that helps.

  19. I love bean sprouts. I need to grow them because they are not always easy to locate here. The fresh ginger in this dish makes a big difference and it was so good. Your decor sounds lovely.
    Thanks Connie.

  20. You and Connie have convinced me to add pomegranates to my winter decor! They are also great to cook with. Both games yesterday were good, and while we celebrate Mr. B today, we will be watching football. All of my teams are out, so we are just enjoying the good games this year and this week we also will be soggy but really need the rain.

  21. When I wear Cydney’s scarves I usually go for the best colors and the messages…I love to wear JOY. That was a big day for me too! Nothing like a shower hitting that foot that is in recovery.

  22. Hi Pam,
How wonderful, it’s your honey’s birthday. Knowing how in mesh and wonderful your family is he will be over joyed with love. It does not get any better than that. You are blessed to have a wonderful marriage. I do too, it’s s huge blessing.

  23. Our family is a huge blessing, Katherine, and it does start with us. Working through the challenges and rejoicing over special moments together… and our family additions of 2 DILs and one SNL are blessings as well.

  24. Happy Birthday to Mr. B! I was 6 degrees this morning. We have snow on the ground but not as much as Merrie, thank goodness. And it will be gone in a day or two. Lovely addition to the charm bracelet. Today’s quote is one worth remembering. Happy Sunday.

  25. Happy birthday, Mr. B. This is one of my favorites of the week-Sunday Mornings at Home..

  26. My Mr. B, Brent is 82 and is still slim and fit. He switched from running about 30 years ago to bicycling. He no longer rides out on our very poor roads but on his Nordictrack bike with a large video screen where he rides with trainers all over the world. He also alternates with the treadmill. He does light weight training with different muscles each day. Having a loving husband willing to take care of us when we need it is a huge blessing. Happy birthday to your Mr. B. My little chocolate Havanese dog, Trixy is curled in her furry nest bed. We have had her now for 3 months today. We love her dearly. She is a pint sized joyful spirit that has chosen to come into our lives as a 9 year old retiree from a puppy farm.

  27. Happy birthday Mr. B!
I enjoyed the post today. It is so good to see how others add the little things to make their homes a special place.
