  1. Pam, the J Jill concept sounds very good. I will be eager to see how it is executed and how it plays out. Retail stores have less and less inventory these days, and also fewer employees to assist shoppers, so this program could be challenging to put into motion. The video shows lots of great looks, and what caught my attention was the opening shot of the lady in white wearing the picture hat. Stunning!

  2. So glad you enjoyed today, Marcia. I will keep an eye on JJILL to see how it’s going.

  3. I read through the J Jill press release and had a flashback to rebranding staff meetings I sat through at Weight Watchers back in the 90s. I didn’t catch a lot of substance. I’ll wait to see how it plays out. QR codes in the catalog don’t excite me. J Jill is one of my favorite stores and I do hope they manage to stay in business. The staff at my local store is very helpful. I called them today because a dress I saw online showed up green & cream in one photo and green & white in another. The associate was able to tell me the background is white thus saving me a trip. I enjoyed the Meg Ryan retrospective. My mother & grandmother watched As the World Turns and I remember seeing Meg as a teenager on that show. I’ve enjoyed a number of her movies. I liked the dogs on the video but didn’t see any looks that inspired me, A few of the outfits gave me a good laugh. What caught my eye on this and so many street scene videos is how many people walk down the street staring at their phone. Happy Wednesday.

  4. I noticed the phone thing recently in a local mall…everyone who walked by me was looking down at the phone. I do not want to miss out on life just looking down. Also, Kathie, I had no idea that Meg Ryan was on that soap. News to me. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Pamela, the video looks like London and that is where I am for a week. Today a graduation of several divisions of Imperial University took place at staggered times, so it was a virtual parade of graduates and their families throughout the day here in South Kensington. I saw some incredible dressy outfits, particularly on the moms since the graduates remained gowned. Loved the men’s tailored look. A bit different from stateside.
My ‘on the street’ observations: many women here wear long skirts, sneakers are everywhere and with every type of outfit, the long medium weight flowy coat is still around, even at 70*, there are a lot of print tops ( florals abound), there are many dresses with sleeves (which always seem rare in the states). I walked through the ground floor of Harrods, but it is difficult with my Other Half to explore the other levels. A gal needs a gal pal for that in London. We are here for museums and relaxing, but tomorrow we may go to Notting Hill. I will see if it’s the same vibe. I am enjoying today’s news as I rest my weary feet!

  6. Great articles. I loved the Today Show folks doing low impact aerobics: looks easy but very hard. I hope to try it.
J Jill seems to have upped its game, but I agree with Kathie – QR codes in a catalog doesn’t do anything for me. I am shopping there more, though. I liked all the dogs in the video and dislike people who walk with phones. Sometimes in the city, I have to stop dead on the sidewalk, so they don’t walk into me. Oh well …

  7. I love your on the scene reporting, Deborah!! Yes…keep it going! I am raising my hand to shop with you in London!! Thank you for the observations!

  8. I do worry that the next generations will have awful posture because of the phone!!

  9. I love Meg Ryan and have seen all of her rom cons. I didn’t know she did soap opera at the beginning of her career. Besides all of the phone watching I noticed that the pants and jeans are very long, wide and flowing. I always like the dogs. The coats also are very long.

  10. Late to get to the fun today, but enjoyed much of the articles. I did want to mention, it seems like JJill is now shipping to Canada, and there is a gorgeous linen dress that I have my eye on. Will use your link.

  11. Hi Pam, Is Plant Powered a magazine a book? Thanks for all your research.
    Rita

  12. Hi Rita, Plant Powered is a website produced by the Eating Well group.

  13. I do enjoy your news posts. But the JJill one left me wondering what they said?!? I don’t live close to any of the best fashion stores so am left with ordering (and sometimes paying for nothing!). I will be checking on JJill.

I enjoyed DeborahLM’s post about the fashions she saw “across the pond”. They are still dressing more than we are and I’m jealous.

  14. So am I, Mary Frances! Very jealous. I hope Deborah will continue with reports from the fashion field!
