If I had a gift card

Happy Tuesday, all!  Today I want to share with you what I would do …..IF I HAD A GIFT CARD.

I understand that many of you do not like gift cards and would prefer a heartfelt gift selected just for you by a family member or a friend.

I am one of those who loves to receive a gift card…because I love to shop!

I was in Marshall’s last week, and it began me thinking what I would shop for if I had a gift card.

Marshall’s is one of my favorite places to shop…especially with the closing of Tuesday Morning.

Today, I am going to share with you two retailers…and what I would do if I had a gift card.

IF I HAD A GIFT CARD: MARSHALL’S

First off, I went by Marshall’s to freshen up a guest bathroom since we have guests coming this week.

The Rachel Zoe hand towels are so soft and in lovely colors.

I also like the prices and selection at Marshall’s for gift wrap and cards.  I have gifts waiting for Mother’s Day, graduation, birthdays, and Father’s Day to wrap.

Even the tissue papers are lovely and ….dare I say it…CHEAP.

Those are that items I was actually shopping, then I began to ponder, what would I shop for if I had a gift card….

Matshall’s does have handbags that may be over one hundred dollars in a high end store, but are about $30 there.

My favorite was the orange feature photo today.

And since I became a student of the Food Network, I spend more time at Marshall’s on the food aisle.

The spices and vinegars and oils are enticing, and I was there for a long time, just reading labels and looking over the collections.

Of course, who would not want to use a smidgeon of the gift card for Salted Caramel Macaroons!  They sound yummy.

This is more fun to me than Amazon shopping because I can touch the cookware and ready the labels.

Of course, if I had a gift card for Marshall’s I would look over and try on the clothing.

The colors and on-trend designs are always a good way to save money and look our best.

Those are some of the ideas of how I might use a gift card for me.

I do shop often at Marshall’s for grandchildren and pets…but these are the stops I might make for me.

IF I HAD A GIFT CARD: KOHL’S

gift card

If I had a gift card to Kohl’s, I think I would consider these two Simply Vera Vera Wang pieces…but not necessarily to wear together.

I really like these leggings and the price is so good compared to other leggings like these of the same design and quality.

These are the SIMPLY VERA VERA WANG HIGH RISE SHAPING FLARE LEGGINGS.

I did not purchase them because they are a little heavy for the heat here, but seem to be excellent quality for the price.

I like them!

I also liked the fit of the SIMPLY VERA VERA WANG SHORT SLEEVED SHIRT….it does come in other colors.

Also, if I had a gift card to Kohl’s I would consider these hair accessories by Kitsch.

I love the colors of the KITSCH ECO-FRIENDLY CHAIN CLAW CLIP in neutrals or the KITSCH 20-PACK ELASTIC HAIR TIES…beautiful neutrals.

I am certain that with my gift card I could find more at Kohl’s but that is all that is on my radar at this time.

There are several other retailers that receiving a gift card for my favorite stores would highly bless me….those stores are always featured here.

My point with today’s post is that giving a gift card is not a cop-out….some of us truly love to shop and are blessed by it.

So if you give gift cards this week…never fear.

Now, please share…do you like to receive gift cards or an actual gift?  This might help others shop for you….thanks for being here…now….

  1. Hi, Pam and all. I always love a gift or gift card. What’s not to like? Hahahaha. I think gift cards are a real treat because you can go have a fun shopping expedition. It was fun to shop with you today. I am usually not a fan of leggings, but those Vera Wang leggings look great on you; and what a cute shirt, too. I feel just as blessed and pampered by receiving a gift card as by receiving a real gift. Have a wonderful day!

  2. Thanks for joining in, Marcia! I was impressed with the quality of those leggings too. Have a wonderful day!

  3. I enjoy both but a gift card is a treat to get something you might not purchase for yourself. It is such fun!

  4. Definitely like to get gift cards. I think they are very thoughtful gifts and not a cop out! My kids know this so I get to have fun picking things out!

  5. First time commenting but enjoy reading your lovely posts everyday! I use to prefer a gift but as I am gracefully aging, I find I enjoy gift cards. There isn’t much I need at my age (73) and being a widow I don’t get out as much as I did when my hubby was here. It’s just not the same doing things without him.

  6. I am sure it isn’t, Gayle. I am so sorry for your loss. I encourage you to do something that brings you joy today and then get up tomorrow and find something that brings you joy. Repeat this each day…one day at a time…in honor of your husband and to help you enjoy life. I will pray for you.

  7. Well, Happy Tuesday! 😊 Been busy the past couple of days, but wanted to say I enjoyed seeing Cocoa the dog – what a cutie-pie! Loved yesterday’s question and reader’s answers. My favorite thing about myself is that I am a very good listener. Everyone needs that person who can listen without haste or judgement, and often even without a solution. Sometimes just the act of listening is quite enough. As to gift cards, oh, yes, please! Even if there is nothing I need, I can do gift shopping. I agree about Marshall’s having nice choices and prices for cards, wrap and bags. I recently shopped for a friend’s 70th birthday there, and since she is facing some stressful times with her husband’s illness, bought cozy, pampering items: a weighted gel face mask (can be cooled or heated), a lavender neck wrap, some nice hand cream, and eucalyptus shower bombs. She loved it, and the loving touch of acknowledging her stress.

  8. My favorites gifts are gift cards or cash so I can select something I will use. The only exception would be gift cards to stores I don’t shop.
I used to buy my own birthday & Christmas gifts from my husband. He had no problem with that cause I wouldn’t return them.

  9. That’s a good point…when we do the shopping less need for returns!

  10. Three words, Swedish Death Cleaning. No one I know wants more stuff. I always give perishables and/or cash. Gift cards are fine if you know the recipient enjoys the store or restaurant. I’ve received gift cards to restaurants I can’t afford even with the card!

  11. Nothing makes me sadder than giving or receiving a gift that goes unused or isn’t what the person wants.
I like to give/get gift cards because 1) I too like to shop, and 2) the person picks what they want out. Marshall’s is a great place because they have such a wide variety of wares.

More than once I have seen gadgets on Amazon or advertised on Instagram at Marshall’s for less. We went to Asia recently and when I was shopping at a department store there looking for tea to take home as a gift I spied tea boxes that looked familiar. There were some that were the same teas as Marshall’s/TJ Maxx carries. The only difference was that the packages were in Chinese. (It’s easy to translate packages with Google Lens).

If I don’t get a gift card for Mother’s Day then I hope I get flowers. They’re always nice and if I don’t like them they won’t stick around forever.

  12. I have received gift cards in the past and of course put them to good use. But sometimes I get something very nice from my daughter. Which is special.
I liked what you found at Marshals I don’t think to go there. Also I really liked the Vera Wang shirt. I have some Kohl’s cash to use. Wish I lived closer the SAS event sounds good.

  13. I always find something I like at Marshall’s and Simply era Vera Wang is my favorite brand at Kohl’s.

  14. Gift cards are wonderful!! I feel like I can purchase anything without worrying about budget. TJ Maxx, Home Goods are fun to shop. Marshall’s isn’t conveniently located to where I live…but the other stores are great. Recently, one of our larger strip malls completed the perfect one stop parking shopping…HomeGoods, TJ Maxx,Nordstrom Rack, Ulta and BevMo……fun way to kill an hour or so….with a gift card..

  15. Hi Pam,
I too love gift cards. If somebody has everything they need and do not want more stuff, giving gift cards to restaurants is a thoughtful gift. A forever friend of mine who passed to heaven last year had immense comfort. I brought her a handcrafted card I made or a beautiful upper end card from Papryus and the line. Also we both baked often. I would bring her something I baked and presented it with style and usually a beautiful plate that went with her decor.

  16. I like a gift card. My family knows the stores I like to shop and so glad they take time to give me the ones I enjoy. For the holidays I like to give a gift and a gift card too, then I can try to listen so I can find something they would like.
    So enjoyed your latest posts.

  17. My son always gives me Amazon gift cards. I love them as I can buy ebooks, clothes, shoes…basically anything. A few years ago, I actually asked my sons to send Amazon gift cards. That way I get what I want and may not spring for on my own dime. He was happy too as then he doesn’t have to struggle with shopping. At 79 there really isn’t much I need. My other 3 sons jus do cards and call which I very much enjoy as we are spread all over the country and don’t see each other very often.
I like the look of those grey pants on you. They are out of stock already online!

  18. I don’t give gift cards so I don’t remember ever getting a gift card. I do try to buy my gifts at stores I know my recipient shops at and include the gift receipt. I don’t mind if they are returned but I like them to know I’ve spent the time to think about what I think they would like. I use to like picking up things for friends throughout the year as I saw gifts that shouted their names. As others have mentioned those of our age don’t need any more things so we now make donations to charitable organizations instead. I too love smoked paprika and salted caramel, hope you picked those up.

  19. I got the paprika, and kept saying walk away from the salted caramel!!

  20. I’ve taken to sending gift cards to my children and grandchildren as they all live in another country and postage almost doubles the price of a gift and invariably takes ages or gets completely lost. I can buy a gift card from their local shops and they can choose what they want. I don’t see them very often so don’t really know their tastes these days. The grandchildren range from 20 down to three so hard to keep up with their tastes. Gift cards seem to be appreciated.
