Sunday Reflections

Sunday Reflections

Happy autumn Sunday, all!  Welcome to my weekly lifestyle post called Sunday Reflections….

Today’s Sunday Reflections is full of autumn fun…from readers, from me, from Pamela’s Kitchen….I hope you will enjoy joining in.

Last week, we attended a school Halloween carnival with our grandsons, and this little lady at the top and her sister were my favorite costumes.

They dressed as their grandmothers!  Isn’t she fabulous in her tweed and pearls?

Winners!  At least my choice for best costumes.  They did make me wonder how I would be portrayed if my granddaughters decided to dress as me????

They were so cute.

As I said, there is much for you today…so grab your warm beverage and a cozy spot and let’s enjoy my Sunday Reflections….

Audrey sent these two photos of her front porch autumn home decor. Audrey wrote,

I enjoyed changing my fall porch decorations.  When I raise the Roman shades on my kitchen windows, I can see the pumpkins.  Great way to start my day.

Janet shared this wonderful photo of her mother after reading WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO LOOK YOUR BEST EACH DAY.

She wrote this note,

Pam, your post today reminded me of my mother.  She was a person with little money but always looked great.  She passed away 23 years ago at the age of 83.  This picture was taken when she was in her early 20’s.  I believe she was at her brother’s wedding .  I just love how the ladies dressed during that era. Loved your column today and thinking about how my mother influenced me with her sense of style.

I would love to see granddaughters dressed like Janet’s mother too…so beautiful.

UPDATE: MY HOME DECOR

Mr. B and I did decide to go forward and get some painting done.

He understands that the only way I can achieve the warm, cozy atmosphere in this house that I want is to change some white walls.

At age 71, I am done with thinking…I will do this later! When possible, it will happen now.

So, bring on the paint! I have ordered lights to replace the monkeys also.

I will share pictures when things are put together!

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: PAMELA’S KITCHEN

Sunday Reflections

Since painting is happening, Pamela’s Kitchen is a little shut down at the moment.

We did bring home some Cowboy Coffee from Buffalo Gap…(see Friday’s post).

One of my favorite easy breakfasts, is something I call Pamela’s Texas Avocado Toast.

I love this HEB HIGHER HARVEST Low-Carb bread, that is WW approved, and use this for my toast.

My Texas version of avocado toast is basically guacamole with a dash of cayenne on top, and then an egg fried medium in a touch of avocado oil.

The egg is best if the yolk is a bit runny over the toast.

On top of the egg is a dash of fajita seasoning.

This is really good.

My grandsons requested Snickerdoodles last week.

I found this recipe on a site called Lil’ Luna.  SNICKERDOODLE RECIPE

Again, I used the European Butter and Mexican Vanilla…and I prefer the Saigon Cinnamon.

My cookies are a little flat because after I made the dough,  my daughter stopped by to visit, and when I returned to the dough,  it had softened.

I could have placed it in the refrigerator, but had promised the cookies for after school which was right away.  Next time I will make sure I cook them faster or use the refigerator.

I know there are fans of Kerrygold Irish butter here and I also like it for other cooking…it is a very good butter from grass-fed cows.

But, I am sold now that European butter makes the difference in baking…in a good way.

I just received this comment on the chocolate chip cookie post from Ann:

Pamela –
I baked these chocolate chip cookies yesterday and my husband & I agree with you: they are THE BEST chocolate chip cookies! I did exactly what you suggested and mixed the dough the night before I planned to bake them, storing in the refrigerator overnight. My cookies looked exactly like yours in the pictures. Great tip about “underbaking” them. This is the first time I used European butter. I think I will try it in other cookie recipes. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

It did take me experimenting with amounts of dry ingredients and brands of others to get this cookie to this best-ever level.

The snickerdoodles may be flat, but one grandson said the snickerdoodles were better than the chocolate chip…I am on a roll here!  PAMELA’S KITCHEN: CHOCOLATE CHIP

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: AUTUMN’S GIFTS

Sunday Reflections

Autumn brings so many wonderful gifts…like festivals.

Here are my other grandchildren at a fall festival with my son…DIL was taking the pic.

The girls love a Cinderella pumpkin.

Sunday Reflections

While the little girls were dressed as grandmothers, I also loved the shark-story my family was telling.

Our oldest grandson was the shark…the youngest was the surfer with his surfboard bitten by the shark…and my daughter the lifeguard.

It was pretty cute…and the surfboard was made from a packing box!  I just knew there were more uses for those boxes.

These are the type of Halloween costumes I love…not the scary ones.

The yard next door to me Is full of the walking dead and witches…I will be glad to see them packed away.

Sunday Reflections

It has been such a joy that the season changed and our move happened at the same time…helps me to celebrate all of the changes around me.

This week my be a little crazy and if I disappear for a day or so, there are good reasons.

Our grandsons will be staying with us for about three days while their parents go out of town.

We have agreed to be flexible in case my daughter and her husband need more time away.

At the end of the week, our new grandson is due.  He may even come on Halloween.

When this happens, Mr B and I will take off back to San Antonio to visit the new baby and new parents.

This week is “one-day-at-a-time”…meaning that any type of planning will happen as we go along.

God is so good!

Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions on Sunday Reflections….and hopefully, I will see you tomorrow…until then….

STAY STRONG & KEEP SMILING!

  1. What a fun post, Pam. Janet’s mother is gorgeous. What a classy lady. And that little grandmother…oh, my, that made my day. What a blessing that a new baby is coming. Have a fabulous week.

  2. I hope you are enjoying Abilene. Be sure and visit Cordell’s. I will be there this week with my granddaughter while she recovers from surgery so her parents can go back to work. I could tell you all the places that I love! My son now lives in San Antonio after moving from Buffalo Gap earlier this year. We need to swap shopping secrets!

  3. Loved seeing Audrey’s cute porch, and Janet’s pretty mama to start my day. What a wonderful and busy time for you! Snickerdoodles were my favorite cookie growing up because they were made with love by my grandma. I will make yours and take them over to share with my father, who will no doubt be reminded of his mother’s own baking. 💕 Thank you for always making Sunday extra special, Pam.

  4. Love that little girls costume, your grandkids shark one was a good one also. Snickerdoodles one of my favorite cookies. Don’t bake anymore as all my kids and grand and great grands live in other states. Can’t wait to see your lights and new paint colors. You sure seem to be enjoying your new home and surroundings.

  5. What a fun post! The joy of seeing these great costumes is grand. I loved Audrey’s porch decor. Painting can make a world of difference in how your space feels & is not as expensive as some projects. Good luck with your painting & blessing for your expected grandson.

  6. I’m not going to repeat what all others have said. But agree on the costumes, pictures and on your painting the house to warm it up. Enjoy your grandchildren this week. I will be here when you come back online.

  7. Thanks to Audrey for sharing your cute seasonal decor – love the denim-wrapped basket! As others have already said, it was such a treat to see Janet’s mama. Style was so important in those days, and I sometimes wish I lived back then. I love following your posts because I believe style still matters, even in today’s very casual times. I strongly agree with you on the super-scary Halloween decor. It has gotten way out of hand in my area, and I am not really looking forward to Halloween. My oldest and youngest grandkids love the scary stuff, but the middle one is absolutely terrified. My role is usually to stay with her while she hangs back or hides in the wagon from all the things that scare her, which is most anything that is remotely scary or graphic. I found a cute, inexpensive Halloween skirt on Chicwish and plan to wear it til it falls apart. My only “real” costume is the Chik-Fil-A cow made from a sweatshirt, and it’s much too hot for the weather we’re having lately. I can top the skirt with anything from a black tee shirt to a heavy sweater or my black trench coat (wish we needed that!) for years to come and it’s so comfortable with an elastic waist. I saw the cutest adult costume at our church trunk or treat last night. She ordered a “Belle” costume (Beauty & The Beast’s Belle) from Amazon that was pretty realistic. Then she bought a bunch of felt tacos in different sizes. She sewed them into the folds of the lower skirt to form a border and then outlined the neckline with smaller ones. Finally, she took two of the larger ones and sewed them like epaulets on the shoulders. She was “Taco Belle,” of course! If I ever want to invest some money in a costume I would love to copy that one. I really enjoy seeing what people come up with, and the little grandma clone you shared was precious. Wishing all y’all a safe and happy Halloween!

  8. Hi Pam,
