A New Favorite Winter Outfit over 50

new winter outfit

Happy Fashion Friday before Christmas, all!  Today I am sharing a new favorite winter outfit over 50.

This new winter outfit really put a smile on my face and though I know this is a very busy time, I just had to share it with you.

Tomorrow is the first day of winter and soon we will be focused on a new winter outfit separate from the holidays.

So, allow me to explain how I happened to build this one and where I went.

A NEW FAVORITE WINTER OUTFIT: THE BRANDS

I understand that the scarf is covering up the buttons, but I love this J. Crew Sweater Blazer and will wear it often.

I purchased the WARWICK SWEATER BLAZER in navy before I moved knowing I was headed to a cooler place.

It is the perfect weight when I need a new winter outfit for a cooler day, but not a bitter cold day….yet it is good for layering underneath.

I will wear it soon and show you the buttons…but at the price it currently is…this is a great tailored classic garment.

The ivory sweater underneath is also perfect for winter in warmer climates because it is sleeveless.  I love that!

Found at Talbots, it is the TURTLENECK SWEATER SHELL in ivory…it is beautiful, comfortable and not too hot.

During the 50% off sales, I did pick up a couple of scarves…one for the holidays and one for a winter outfit.

Both are excellent as pieces from Talbots usually are.

The WHIMSY FAIR ISLE SCARF is perfect for a touch of the holidays…and I love Christmas trees.

I smiled when I saw the scarf paired with my Christmas Tree Brooch from MACY’S  (a past purchase).

It was cold on this day; yet too warm to wrap it around my neck without being hot.

I also picked up this beauty and the cashmere is soooo comfortable.

On really cold days, I can see me wearing it around the house too!

It is the CASHMERE WATERWEAVE SCARF in Terrific Tartan.

I feel certain I will wear it for you soon.

The jeans I am wearing are a blast from my past…the are Soft Surroundings.

A new favorite winter outfit…You bet it is!  I really like this and it speaks my five style adjectives.

A NEW FAVORITE WINTER OUTFIT: WHERE I WORE THE NEW WINTER OUTFIT

Perhaps by the bleachers behind the poinsettia, you can tell I was at my grandsons school Christmas Program.

It was so sweet and such a joy to be there.

What is your new favorite winter outfit this year…is it a trusted blast from the past or does it include new pieces?

Thank you for being her for A New Favorite Winter Outfit Over 50!

I am sure we are all super busy, but I will be here tomorrow on the first day of winter with something fun…..hope to see you then…until then…

STAY STRONG & KEEP SMILING!

  1. You have found a real winner for this holiday season! I’m also wearing navy for the holidays, thanks to you. I bought the matching sweater from Talbot’s after you featured it, and chose the green scarf with metallic gold threads, which turned out to be a great choice. It matches the tree sweater perfectly, but can also be worn throughout fall and winter. I’ve worn it with navy dress pants and green suede flats for dinner and a church concert, and with dark skinny jeans and leather riding boots for a holiday shopping excursion. I like it so much that I haven’t even gotten out any of my other seasonal sweaters. Looks like we will be in the 70’s on Christmas, so I’ll need to dig out a Christmas tee shirt instead. So glad I invested in several after the last warm December we had. I’ve also become a huge fan of sweater blazers this season, thanks to your posts featuring them. I chose one from JJill in a deep eggplant shade that coordinates with quite a few other pieces already in my closet, and it’s been serving me well. A few well- chosen basics like that go a long way to stretch a wardrobe when combined with different pins, scarves and necklaces. Thank you for the inspiration I find in your posts throughout the year on so many different topics. I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us in the new year, which will be here before we know it.

  2. It is coming too fast. My daughter loves that Christmas sweater from Talbots too. The gold scarf sounds like a perfect fit for it!

  3. I like your sweater blazer so much. I thought I had bought one you showed us from JJill, a burgundy one, but sadly received a notice that it was no longer available. I’m still on the lookout for one though perhaps in the Christmas sales. Your scarf is also lovely as is your brooch. My mother was a big “ brooch-wearer” so I need to dig out some of her jewelry during these months of colder weather. Our days of Christmas preparation have quickly gotten short…much to get done this weekend.

  4. I purchased a brand new BIG scarf ( wintery) in shades of deep navy/ red and white. Its super long and big and can wrap around snugly keeping our Atlantic winds at bay!
I wear it with my deep navy ( indigo) modest down coat. Its not very thick but down does protect.

  5. I’ve been leaning hard into navy this season too, thanks to purchasing the Talbots vest in navy. Yesterday, I wore it with a blue fair isle sweater, jeans and boots, and felt festive even if not traditionally Christmas-ish when I ran a few holiday errands. My favorite winter outfit so far is a throwback. I once had a JCrew sweater blazer in an oversized leopard print that I wore constantly. After I lost weight, I had to let it go. This spring, on deep, deep clearance, I found one at Talbots that was almost an exact dupe. It was on final sale, and I ordered it with crossed fingers. It fits perfectly and once again I’m in love. For the holidays, I pair it with a bright red tee (it’s too hot for a sweater underneath, because it’s a heavy piece). So glad to have it!

  6. What a nice outfit. I see you are really enjoying your new town. You are wearing my favorite colors!

  7. Thanks Pamela. Your outfit is lovely. Merry Christmas to you and your family! I look forward to reading your posts in the new year.

  8. You look like holiday perfection! That scarf is fantastic and needs to hop into my cart and make use of today’s 50% off one item sale. 😍 My gift orders have been arriving this week, from JCP and Lands End, via your links. Having all the vendors in one place makes comparison shopping SO EASY, and the deals were fantastic. Bath towels and pajama bottoms for everyone! 🤶 lol. I’m off to a girlfriends’ casual lunch today and going to wear my newish Skechers suede boots with oh-so-cute cabled sweater cuffs, dark wash ankle jeans, cream sweater, pale blue vest with taupe fur trim, and a Nordic print scarf to top it all off. Definitely a holiday/winter favorite! 🎄

  9. I made out like a bandit for my birthday last Saturday! My husband gives me a dollar amount and tell me to have at it. He hates to try to buy for me. So using your links during a big sale at Kohls and JCP, I bought 3 flannel plaid shirts, two pairs of flannel pajamas and I added my own money for two pairs of boot cut jeans by Liz Claiborne from JCP and I finally found a pair of Easy Spirit clogs that look like a natural sweater on the outside and short faux fur on the inside. I wear them in the house only but they actually are shoes. Very comfortable shoes too I might add. I used your links and got the clogs for an excellent price. I agree that it is fun to shop with your links and get the best sale prices. I always wear shades of blue with navy a favorite. We are expecting warmer weather here too at 54-62 degrees! Crazy! I’m cooking today for the next couple of weeks. Then I pack meals in the freezer for us to eat. I hate the mess but I’m cleaning up as I go. Taking a tea break now with all of you. Merry Christmas to all!

  10. I love your outfit. Navy is such a great color for you. The Christmas tree scarf and brooch are the perfect touch. I purchased the J Jill camel sweater blazer this fall and I’d love to pin my Christmas tree brooch on it but I’m afraid of snagging it. Any tips? I guess I don’t have a favorite winter outfit right now. I guess my winter uniform is one of my sweater-jackets or corduroy jackets that I pair with dark wash or colored girlfriend jeans, a nice tee or fine gauge sweater and ankle boots. All are in my autumn palette so most pieces go together easily. BTW, your hair looks great again today.

  11. Hi Pam, we had our office Christmas party yesterday. I am a Summer and tradition Christmas colors do not look good on me. I wore black EF pointe pants, a medium weight linen darkish, green short blazer from Flax, a pink tank from Old Navy and a vintage scarf with different shades of pink and green, a reindeer pin and my white leather SAS sneakers. I was very pleased with my “Christmas” outfit as I put it together that morning. I love your scarf and pin. If Talbots has that scarf after Christmas it was meant to be! I like to get Talbots scarfs after Christmas when they are usually at a deep discount.
    Have a great, productive weekend.

  12. I have a tip for Kathie regarding the wearing of a brooch with her fine knits. The problem isn’t so much the tiny holes a pin makes, but the larger they become because of the weight of the brooch. Do this: grab a piece of felt, cut out a front and back sized just smaller than the brooch. Now line up your back piece behind your lapel or on the inside of garment, and the front piece on top just beneath your pin. It reinforces the knit and provides a more sturdy backer for your pin. It’s like sturdier made earring backers, how they make the earring sit up better on the lobe, and do far less damage to the original hole.

  13. You might do what I did here, Kathie. I pinned it to the scarf and not the sweater blazer.

  14. Often, Talbots has the Red Door Sale after Christmas…I am so glad I got this one 50% off. And your winter Christmas outfit sounds great for that cooler palette. Thanks Betty.
