Small Business Spotlight: Vintage Marketplace

Small Business Spotlight

Happy Thursday, everyone!  Welcome to a follow up…Small Business Spotlight: Vintage Marketplace.

On Monday, I featured a Small Business Spotlight: Blue Willow Estate Sales.

I wrote that I was on my way to another location when I happened upon Blue Willow…that location was next door at Vintage Marketplace.

So, I want to be fair and make sure I show you Vintage Marketplace in Abilene now.

It is another amazing business full of treasures located in my new community.

So, join me as I introduce you to this place, the ladies I met there and what I purchased.

SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: VINTAGE MARKETPLACE

Small Business Spotlight

After many people telling me to visit this small business, I am happy to feature them in a Small Business Spotlight.

Meet Chrissy and Connie who were very busy taking care of their customers while I was there.

Vintage Marketplace prides themselves in being a home decor experience and it truly is.

Early on, I experienced a sweet moment of nostalgia when I saw these little mice.

My mother had these in our Christmas decorations and I always thought they were so cute.

I did not purchase them, but it was nice to have a good memory from my childhood.

You will find many vendors with their own small shops within Vintage Marketplace.

Some of these shops are curated with such inviting atmosphere than you want to step in and pull up a chair.

SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: VINTAGE MARKETPLACE: HOLIDAY ON SALE

I must admit that the Christmas decorations in Vintage Marketplace are so cute that I am tempted to add a few new pieces.

And many of the Christmas decorations are on sale.  (Shhhh…don’t tell Mr. B that I wanted to add more!)

I did add something….

A few of the residents in my Christmas village were broken during the move.

I was thrilled to find a whole “Christmas Village” corner in Vintage Marketplace so I purchased six new people for my village.

This one is my favorite.

Funny story,,,when I discovered the broken pieces I went to Hobby Lobby and asked a young worker if they had any Village People.

He stared at me to see if I would break into a rendition of YMCA there in the store…but I assured him that was not the village people I needed.

Just so you know, Hobby Lobby does not carry them…but Vintage Marketplace does!

I love finding them at a place like this because they are often unique and more interesting pieces.

I also discovered ideas for my rustic, country decor…you cannot rush through a place like Vintage Marketplace.

SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: VINTAGE MARKETPLACE: ALL YEAR LONG

I recognize that the holiday decor is only up for a short period of time (so sad), but I saw several things that inspired me for the whole year.

Vintage Marketplace is where you go to find hidden treasures.

I also purchased this little bench and it was exactly what I was looking for.

This is a reading space I have created in our new home next to a loaded bookshelf.

I needed a small “table” to set a drink on when sitting in these chairs and reading.

This bench is perfect for the style of the room and for sturdiness.  I almost walked by it, but thank goodness it caught my eye.

A traditional coffee table or end table would have been too big and not the style I desired.

I have done very little to an outdoor space which can be seen from several windows.

As spring arrives, I will return to Vintage Marketplace for inspiration.

Thank you to those who have enjoyed discovering Abilene along with me…it is so much fun.

I want to shed light on these incredible small businesses …especially those run and staffed by amazing women.

The people and the shops are so inspirational.

Thanks for being here…until tomorrow….

STAY STRONG & KEEP SMILING!

  1. I could spend hours in a place like that! Glad you found your Village People and the perfect bench for your reading space. Love visiting the shops of Abilene with you.

  2. I love how Chrissy and Connie were ‘very busy taking care of their customers’. I knew that I was going to love that store! Such a delight. My house is full of vintage treasures. I even have an old chandelier from a previous home in my basement waiting to be hung outside, but we grapple every summer with the ‘where’ to put it. Someone commented on the magazine blog about twinkle lights. Now I am one step closer. That wouldn’t be a fire hazard. We visited family friends in Italy once and they used real candles. Magical, eating outside for hours under a chandelier. I know some of these comments refer to yesterday’s news. You are so lucky to have Dillards. I was an assistant buyer at Bloomingdale’s in the mid seventies. The large department stores were run so differently and each was its own delight, especially at Christmas. The windows on ground level! I recently found the book WHEN WOMEN RAN FIFTH AVENUE so interesting. It delves into Lord and Taylor, Bonwit Teller, and Henri Bendel. Such an eye opener for those interested in what made a department store tick, how women ran them, how they opened the door for women working on the floor, and what they provided on site for the work force. (Some even had an on site doctor and dentist.) have a good day. I love reading about your independent stores.

  3. Deborah…I jumped over and ordered the book before I commented back. Thank you for the recommendation.

  4. The Vintage Marketplace looks like a place I could spend hours in. I hope you will take us back there with you in the spring to see the displays. I finally stopped into our new little shop of vintage finds and learned that its owned by the woman who recently purchased the adjacent bakery and also has a few bread & breakfast locations in town which she has furnished with estate sale finds. The shop is really tiny though it looks larger as one wall is a mirror. I was told the owner has a warehouse full of interesting decor and changes the displays often. I didn’t get to the blog until late yesterday and didn’t get a chance to comment on how delightful your poem is. I really enjoyed reading it.

  5. What a cute little trio of mice! Thanks so much for these visits to your community’s shops. Thanks too, to Deborah, for the interesting note and book about department stores. My mother worked at L.S. Ayres in downtown Indianapolis in the late 1950’s, and spoke of the way ladies dressed up to come downtown and shop, lunch. She loved her time there, and carried those early style influences with her through college and her teaching career. I think I’ll try to find this book to read as well.

  6. What a beautiful store! Please bring home the little squirrels that remind you of your Mom! You will think of her every time you look at them. And how lovely is that?

  7. Wow I would go crazy in these wonderful shops! Those cute mice would be in my cart for sure. Even more surprising was the reasonable prices ( I was able to see a few)! So enjoy visiting these shops and Abilene with you. Wishing you and yours a blessed Christmas Pam!

  8. It’s so much fun to see Abilene through your eyes, and it looks like you’ve found another gem! As I prepare to move to a home built in 1928 I’m always on the lookout for vintage pieces. I’m not sure I could have exercised the same restraint you did, but the bench and “Village People” were great finds. Now you have me thinking about how I can create a similar reading corner in the new house. Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. I am excited to have a space for reading now, and after visiting some of these shops I have a few more ideas. I will go back to working on the house again after Christmas is put away. So cool that your new home is from 1928…I hope you will share a picture at some point. Always happy to bring inspiration.

  10. Loved looking at your Vintage Marketplace shop! You are so lucky to have shops like that. Enjoy your reading nook. Can’t wait to see how you decorate after the holidays. There is only room for one comfortable chair between our large bookcases in my husband’s office/den. I just read on my tablet or listen to Audible books at our dining room table which has a puzzle going or set up for my coloring. I’m working in Johanna’s Christmas now by Johanna Basford from Scotland. I love her coloring books. They are very challenging.

  11. Oh boy I’d be in big trouble if I went there. So many things just in your picture I would love to have. Love that place wish I lived close so I could shop there.
