Sixty years ago, I wrote a poem as an 11-year-old and I have recited that poem every year on this day!
Read it below (with attitude!)…I am shocked that it has been 60 years!
Thank you for joining me today…I have more fun from Texas the remainder of the week, so I hope you will join in and come along….
Until then….

What a great poem, especially for your age at the time! Thank you for all the work you do in curating our Wednesday reads. I wish you and your family a blessed Christmas.
Thank you, Irene! I was so surprised when I realized it’s been 60 years since I wrote the poem! I am glad you enjoyed it.
Love the poem. And love the variety of your posts. A lot of work on your part, a lot of joy my part. Best wishes for the upcoming holidays!
What a lovely poem! And still so true today😊. I so look forward to your Wednesday posts. Always find something new!
Thank you, Judith! It’s work I enjoy!
Thanks Rhoda! Glad you enjoy it!
As a native New Yorker Lord & Taylor was always a favorite; they had a fabulous dress department. Now in CA Macy’s is the only department store near me and now they are in financial woes. So sad to see these retailers going away; kudos to Dillards for knowing their limitations and customer! The London video was lovely; a little red and that beautiful shrimp color but otherwise lots of camel and black. So good to see shoppers pulled together and not looking sloppy! Amazing you have kept that poem all these years! Merry Christmas!
There was a time in my 20s I traveled to NYC and Washington D.C. for work and I would always shop at Lord & Taylor…I loved it.
It is sad to see so many going away. I am so glad there is a Dillard’s in my new home town.
Thank you for this lovely post. Yes to the Velcro rollers. They seem to be the only thing that really works for my hair. You do have to hide out for a while if air drying your hair. I remember being surprised as a little kid that Santa thought I was good enough for all the wonderful gifts I received. It was an affirmation of sorts–I guess! London looks cold! Lots of sensible footwear.
Merry Christmas to you, Pam and your lovely family.
I really liked the French Country Christmas table decorations, but maybe not the outside chandelier in the tree I am just toooo practical!!
Thanks for sharing your poem, the Christmas season is the best.
Very interesting article about Dillards. I was not aware of the unique business structure of that company.
It’s nice that Dillard’s is not screaming sales at us all of the time…however, when they do promote a sale and on their sale tab you an find great deals. They just want you to return them right away or some things are not returnable, but I appreciate a good market plan and great customer service.
It has taken me two days to read and view the video! That two story library was quite something to see! That whole giant house was something to see and read about. I watched the London video and then the Swedish one. Monochromatic neutral dressing from winter white to black seems the style. London likes high water pants and Sweden likes long puddling flowing wide leg pants with long coats. Also mostly neutral and monochromatic. It was obviously cold but a couple of women thought it attractive to wear very mini skirts and tights. Not attractive to me. I dress for the weather. And it has been cool enough for coats, hats and gloves on our dog walks. Love all of the delicious cookie recipes! Good work Pam!
