2025 Fashion Trends: Accessory Update
Happy Saturday, ladies! It is our first Saturday 2025 Fashion Trends report, today with an accessory update!
The Saturday feature from last year reporting on fashion trends for the year was very popular and that motivates me to continue this year.
I have been reading many articles predicting 2025 fashion trends, and I want to make sure I feature the ones you might be most interested in knowing.
Sometimes all we need to do is pull a forgotten garment from our wardrobe because it is current once again.
This happened last year with leopard print.
Many here owned pieces already and just had not worn them in a while.
Fashion trend reports explain why you see what you see from brands, and assist you to look current with your style.
So, join me today for a featured 2025 fashion trend and for a discussion at the bottom which you can participate in.
Today, the 2025 Fashion Trends is an accessory update!
2025 FASHION TRENDS: LOAFERS
Refinery 29 reported on 12 2025 fashion trends we will see often and one was loafers.
“Loafers are going nowhere. In 2025, they’ll be worn with absolutely everything: socks and skirts, sporty elements, as well as denim, and will often be chosen over a trainer,” content creator Danielle Ward (@littlefashbird) tells Refinery29.”
Personally, I am leaning toward the chic loafer styles over the chunky designs…though those can be fun and I own a couple.
I love the BIRDIES BLACKBIRD LOAFER in the oak shimmer suede that you see with jeans here….so chic.
Or you can look over all BIRDIE’S LOAFERS.
Quince has entered the footwear realm as well as affordable quality clothing.
These look lovely for a 2025 fashion trend loafers that go season to season.
It is the QUINCE ITALIAN SUEDE PENNY LOAFER in almond. It comes in three colors.
VIONIC LOAFERS also bring us several very stylish shoes that will keep us 2025 Fashion Trends- current.
The VIONIC BAY SLIP ON LOAFER is a perfect style for vacation or to head into spring coming soon. The cream leather is a great neutral.
Of course, I would like to show you an excellent selection from Easy Spirit, and it is a loafer in three colors.
This is the VALINA CASUAL SLIP ON FLATS in natural…and it is on sale.
2025 FASHION TRENDS: DO YOU AGREE?
Something else in the article captured my attention.
From Refinery 29:
“I love a purse, and I don’t see us totally abandoning luxury handbags anytime soon. But there’s no denying that we’ve seen the slow decline of the concept of the It bag over the last decade. I think that will mean incorporating products that we typically carry around in our bags into our clothing — whether through custom pockets or finding all-new ways to strap them to our person,” fashion writer Emily Kirkpatrick, who runs the I Heart Mess Substack, tells Refinery29. “I’m thinking something in the vein of that Moschino fall 2021 jacket Lisa Todd Wexley wears in And Just Like That… only way cuter.”
So, I ask you…do you see a time that women do not carry handbags?
Do you still carry a handbag?
I will go first…I do and I like to carry one. There are items I want handy that are more than money or a credit card.
In the past, I have needed to carry an inhaler for my asthma. I do carry antibacterial hand cleaner. I carry lip color and a small mirror. I always carry a pen and paper and business cards. As a journalist, I want more than a phone to take notes on if needed.
With that said, I do prefer a cross body bag in this time of increased crime, and to provide hands free.
So, whatever I carry must fit into a crossbody.
I still like a quality, beautiful bag for some special occasions or a clutch for going out.
OK…I have established that I like handbags….what about you?
Please share…and thank you for joining me for the return of 2025 Fashion Trends on Saturdays.
Tomorrow is Sunday Reflections and I hope to see you then!

Crossbag only for me too! I like to be hands free when out and about. Cell phone, cards, cash and sunglasses are my must have items. I need to purge the few shoulder bags I have kept.
I have always loved loafers even when not a fashion trend. I suppose I am a product of the ’80’s preppy movement. Loafers and clogs are my go-to shoes. I must have a hand bag, not only for my glasses, sun glasses, lipstick, hand sanitizer like you but I carry a pair of my husband’s glasses too!
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and finds each day so thank you for what you do!
I also need to purge bags, I have so many I have lived but rarely use now.
Thank you for joining in Kim! I do not see me ever leaving the house without a bag and sometimes Mr. B also asks me to carry things for him!
Like Kim, I love loafers. As a child of the 80s loafers are a go to. I carry a handbag 80% of the time. I’m partial to a crossbody or backpack style. When I do carry one, it’s because I want to have a book or my iPad with me.
Thanks for joining in, Jenn! Happy Saturday!
The older I get the more I realize I need a shoe that either zips on like a bootie or has an ankle strap; otherwise I will walk out of it so I do not see loafers in my future though I wore them in the past. Age and foot, walking issues…grrr! However, I do carry a handbag, usually with a shoulder strap so my hands are free. As I often had small grandchildren around, I carried bandaids, eye drops, Neosporin, stain sticks, hair elastics, brushes to be prepared for situations with the children. I also carry a weekly planner everywhere because I like to have a paper copy of our doctor appointments and local meetings as well as when we had our vaccinations, colonoscopies, MRI’s, other medical procedures. I only use a smaller crossbody if I am shopping by myself, but always have my “ equipped” purse in the car.
Pocketbooks, handbags, purses; whatever they are called, I have always loved them. I can still remember saving my babysitting money for a beautiful navy blue bag I coveted. To me, it is second to shoes as the most important accessory. When I worked I used a tote; I still own my LV neverfull but hardly ever use it anymore. I love all my lightweight Longchamps and use them occasionally. For everyday, I found these quilted MZ Wallace dupes on Amazon that are crossbody and super lightweight. Special occasion or nights I use a clutch but again I have a LV that rarely makes an appearance. For golf I love a Vera Bradley tote that holds all my essentials when I play; it’s the perfect size at 11 x 15 and the black quilt has upheld nicely. I don’t think I ever met a bag I didn’t like!! BTW, this NY girl transplanted to CA has been laughed at for calling my bag a pocketbook! The bag in whatever form is here to stay!
Good morning Pam, we had a snow day yesterday and I made a soup from a recipe that was mentioned in Wednesday’s articles. It was very good and hearty. I froze some and have enough food for a week. Regarding loafers, I used to wear them all the time but with my feet and orthotics, I am sticking with SAS sneakers, I have 4 different colors in my rotation. I wish I could wear loafers again. Bass outlet used to have the best loafers back in the day. My handbags are mostly vintage coach bags from the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s. I switch out the straps to make them into crossbody bags. From my observation it is the younger generation who are not carrying handbags and are using pockets and small wallets. My nieces carry their phones with holders attached for credit/bank card, driver’s license, and I don’t think they carry cash anymore. Enjoy your day.
Thank you for continuing with the Saturday posts on trends. I rely on them! I love loafers as much as sneakers, and I have sleek, lug soles, stretchy, etc. My oldest pair are 2o years old, a pair of orange Penney loafers that I leather painted to give the new life. I am happy to hear they are on trend since I have always worn them. I am also a crossbody bag lady. I don’t want to count them. Some are leather painted (rather than donated) to blend into my autumn palette. I have many price points. I will say that when I was traveling in cold weather over Christmas, I did ditch my bag to make use of my inside and outside pockets of my warm coat. We were mostly window shopping and doing touristy things, so I didn’t need a bag. It was freeing, but a nice crossbody will be my go-to forever.
I also carry a planner when I go places that lead to other appointments. I just cannot get accustomed to using my phone for a calendar. I still like to see the big picture! Thanks Celia…I certainly understand foot issues!
LOL…honestly I have not heard it called a pocketbook in a long time…thanks for the memories and the comment, Linda.
Good observation, Betty…I do believe it is a younger generation thing not to carry a handbag. Currently, my favorite loafer is from SAS and fortunately it works for me. Now, which soup recipe did you make…would love to know!
If I were in weather where I go out in a heavy coat, I could see me doing the same thing with the pockets…thanks for mentioning that Deborah and it is always good to know when you like a feature.
Loafers are such a versatile style shoe and I’m glad to see more of them in the marketplace. I wore them all through high school and collage and again when they made a comeback in the 80s. I have 3 pair and am looking forward to wearing them again in the spring. I cannot remember the last time I’ve owned a hand bag. I’ve only worn a small cross-body bag since the 80s when I was teaching and developed a shoulder issue probably from schlepping books and papers. Back then I bought small shoulder bags with long straps but now finding stylish cross-body bags is much easier. I’ve learned I don’t need to carry much and carry small items. Rather than full size lip stick I carry a couple of the “gift with purchase” size. My hand sanitizers are the pen style version, about the size a felt markers. I keep a well equipped first aid kit in my car with emergency items.
Happy Saturday, Kathie. I just began to use a crossbody bag during the pandemic, and now it is my go to style. I wish I had used it when teaching like you did.
I love all shoes, and have a couple of pairs of Vivaia loafers that are very comfortable. Chunky loafers often look to me like they were the baby of a sneaker and a loafer, so I stick to sleek styles of loafers. I use crossbodies now vs the totes I had while working. I keep telling myself I should use my beautiful Brahmin bags, but they are big and heavy. I’m trying to talk myself into sending them to consignment. Younger people definitely do not carry purses. My son doesn’t even carry a wallet, just some phone holder that holds his credit cards and drivers license. I see many younger people with a work tote, but only about half carry what I would call a purse. Though I’m seeing fewer of them, for a long time people were wearing Lululemon little pouches across their chests. I did this for a time, and still do for travel, but not having room for sunglasses was frustrating (I kept them in the car trunk). Old habits die hard, but I’m not against change in this area. As I age, a heavy bag just weighs me down.
Old habits do die hard and it has so much to do with our lifestyle. Thanks for sharing your thoughts today, Linda.
Like you I’m hooked on cross body bags. They are so convenient and leaves me hand free, which is high priority for me – a carry over from my former career. I also like a bag that has at least two separate compartments. As for loafers: I love them, unfortunately I wear a narrow width and those are difficult to find in my price range.
I’m loving your style trends. Thank you.
You are so welcome, Rhoda…I plan to bring you one each Saturday!
Will be glad to pull out the loafers once boot season is gone. They have always been a favourite. Not sure I’d wear them and socks with a skirt. I’m a cross-body purse lady and I’m afraid I’ve had to give up leather as once you put anything in them they are too heavy for me. When in a really cold climate, like I am, your pockets are used for gloves, hats, hand warmers, sun screen and lip sealers. I’d be afraid of loosing credit cards, my license, etc. if I put them in my pockets because you’re always shoving things in and pulling things out of them. Many a glove has gone astray. LOL
I definitely need to carry some sort of bag for my phone, wallet and very necessary reading glasses! I use only crossbody bags because they don’t hurt my shoulder. Over the years I’ve opted for smaller bags to reduce the weight and only have on me the things I absolutely need. I have a tote bag with all the other items I might possibly need that I leave in the car. I used to wear loafers all the time before I retired. Now my shoes of choice are my sneakers. We need to listen to our bodies and adjust as we get older!
Happy weekend to all!
Linda Ann S
As much as I would love to be able to go without a handbag, I can’t imagine actually doing it. Like you, there are things I feel I need to carry with me. I like a bag with an adjustable strap that I can carry on my shoulder or cross body.
Hard to leave home without my handbag these days, but its actually a hands/ free cross body style too! I own it in three colors!
And yes to loafers with jeans unless its snowing and cold as its been here lately, so its boots!
I see younger women without bags keeping everything in jacket pockets, but that is not me!
Thanks for sharing, Linda. I laughed because through the years with our family I have had so many single gloves and socks.
I agree, Linda! I will say for those who love and still wear loafers there are great comfort lines with loafers offered.
Leaving the house without a handbag would just feel weird to me…I am well trained. Thanks Elaine.
Thanks for joining in, Paulette.
I have two pairs of leather loafers from Clark’s that I wear with pants. I also wear them with jeans for a dressier look. I have a pair of stretchy loafers that are more casual that I wear a lot. Loafers are better than flats for my particular foot issues, but I am still searching for a comfortable pair of flats. I still carry a purse. I prefer a larger bag to carry all my paraphernalia & carry the same one all season long, unless I am attending a very dressy affair, & those are very rare these days. I am picky about the setup of my bag, so I generally carry one until it is too worn to use.
I carry a crossbody bag for my medications, wallet, glasses, planner and pen, comb, and tinted lip conditioner and a Kleenex packet. My favorite is a very soft navy blue one. Don’t remember where I got it. I still have a black leather and a white SAS bag that are at least 20 years old but are like new. I like those loafers from Easy Spirit but would probably walk out of them. I wear my Travel furr Easy Spirit clogs as house shoes and slippers at night. I two pair. Love them for comfort. I have to be careful not to walk out of them. I’m usually in sneakers but for today’s annual HOA meeting, I’m wearing my black suede booties. We have another cold front coming today and it brought clouds. So we are both dressing warm! I love this post Pam! But Sunday is my favorite.
I think almost always, loafers are a good idea.
See you tomorrow, Sydney!
Hi Pam, I made the Chicken Soup with Beans from Taste of Home. I don’t cook so it was a very basic recipe, but I added diced celery, tri colored carrots, and small potatoes, all of which I had in the refrigerator. I used low salt chicken broth and 2 cans of fire roasted diced tomatoes. I also added 2 bay leaves. Not sure what I did correctly but it worked. I guess you really can’t mess up chicken soup, and northern beans are my favorite. There were some other soup recipes from that article I liked as well. Soups are easy, I can take to work for lunch and are filling.
Thank you…I love to hear what works..I am going to try this one. Typically I do not put beans in my chicken soup.
Definitely cross-bodyn8s my fav and I like.good quality. I always want phone, ID and CCs, allergy & migtaine meds, sun glasses & hand sanitizer. I don’t see the end of handbags. I’m a serious hobby photographer so sometimes I’ve got my 35mm + in a camera backpack. When I have that, I don’t carry a purse.
Thanks for sharing Therese…I haven’t carried my camera bag in a while, but I did the same when I took one with me.
I carry a bag. I change out between cross body and a almost tote size. What I carry in the bag depends on if my husband is with me, or just a short shopping trip. Sometimes I need to use the wheel chair for my husband and a smaller bag is best.
I also like loafers. I have some for seasonal wear, but booties and sneakers do add to my choice of foot wear
Thanks so much for joining in, Audrey!
Oh, I’m so late to the blog today, but loved reading through everybody’s comments on loafers and purses. I like the comfort of a good loafer, and they usually feel good on my special needs feet. I often use the term pocketbook simply because that was what I grew up with from both grandmothers and my mom. I use full size purses, and change them by outfit. My default winter bag, which goes with much of my navy core pieces, is a blue suede Dooney satchel. I need something roomy because I always carry my father’s wallet and eyeglasses case, and lots of tissues for him. For visiting the Farmer’s Market or an outdoor concert or fair, I favor a crossbody, and have several fun ones: a blue and white stripe, a yellow plaid, and a bold red and white horizontal striped canvas. For anything elegant, I have my mother’s vintage black velvet kiss-lock bag, or I take my deep blue suede artisan made bag.
Your vintage bag sounds wonderful, Connie!
Maybe it is a northern or New England thing, but I have always called a purse a pocketbook. When I moved down south I always am made fun of for calling it a pocketbook.
It is so interesting to hear that this is regional, Joyce! Thank you for sharing.
I carry a very flat leather purse about 4×7”. It has a wrist strap that I use when home and also an adjustable shoulder/cross body strap I use when traveling. I actually have it in 3 other colors. I found with a larger purse I ended up carrying about 100# of grocery receipts! So the smaller bag means I carry less garbage! It still fits my minimal wallet, lipstick, glasses and my phone. But usually my sunglasses are on my face and my phone is in my pocket!
Glad to hear loafers are coming back. I had 2 beautiful leather pairs I donated when we switched houses in 2010 bc I was no longer wearing them. I’ve been kicking myself ever since. Live and learn right?!!
I hear you, April, we do live and learn. I know I also have “tossing too soon” regrets. I agree that large purses can often become garbage collectors.
