Good morning! What an excellent choice of articles this week, Pamela. I enjoyed Keaton’s minimalist LR, the chicken sauce recipe, the stripped old sideboards, the upbeat reaching 70, as well as many others. I am saving my favorite, the fashion section for later today. I was very happy to hear that it is presented by a real stylist. I had given up on the AI ones. Thank you for a wonderful selection!
I agree with the hair section. If you are over 70 and are going to color your hair, prepare to go every two weeks for touch ups and change the style every few years. It is sad to see a woman hanging on to something that isn’t there. Don’t be afraid to try new things.
Thank you for letting me know what you enjoyed, Deborah. This helps so much when I am researching articles!
Every woman knows when it is time to stop the color and decide what is best for them. I am not trying to hang on to youth…just what I feel most confident wearing for my hair. When it looks unnatural, I will stop. I don’t go every two weeks or change my style often. So I would contest that premise. But so many of my friends have gorgeous gray hair and they decided the time that was right for them.
Great selection of articles, Pam. I agree with all points that the video presenter makes. Within reason. There are certain types of clothing that can look fresh if worn in a certain way. For instance. that black cocktail dress with the lace sleeves looks stunning to me. And if you are walking the dog, you might need a parka. But these items should be properly fitting, etc, to make the look work.
Thanks for joining in Marcia…I always look forward to your thoughts.
I don’t know what WeatherTech is but the commercial made me smile. Sally’s garlic bread got be back on her site and looking at more of her recipes now that I’m baking my own bread again. The video was interesting. The stylist is British and from what I have seen online, many British women dress a little differently than American women. I agree with most of her points especially about avoiding baggy, shapeless garments. But one size never fits all. I’m small and petite and love to wear a linen camp shirt (one of her no-no’s) in the summer. The style may not be good for all body types but it works better for me than the kind of shirts she suggests that look like tunics on me. I’d look like I was playing dress-up in a “tea dress” but on a taller woman the style can look great. Thanks for another set of great articles.
So glad you found articles you enjoyed, Kathie. Just like our hair, we are all different and must decide what is best for us…to be our own confident best. These videos are helpful and do give ideas, but like everything else online, they are not a good fit for “all.” I am so glad you can look at them and decide what works for you and what doesn’t work for you…we all must do the same. I baked bread when my children were young and home with me…only one remembers it. I have recently considered trying it again.
I’m back again after watching the fashion video. I liked her and she made some good points, but I disagree with a few of them. I agree with Marcia about being able to make a piece look fresh. All it takes, for example with a parka type coat, is to style it as I would my wool coats. The right accessories do wonders in the right- for- you colors: scarves, gloves or mittens, possibly a hat, a crossbody bag. All ‘lift’ that parka or down jacket. It actually recedes and the accessories shine if it is a neutral. If the coat is a color, I call it a ‘hello’ coat, and I play down the accessories. I live in Maine; I probably have 10, between jackets and coats that fit into her aging category, that span 0* to 60*. I never feel dowdy in them, nor do I feel dowdy in my to-knee cardigans. I wear them inside for coziness and outside in the fall and spring. The length works for my body type- straight. I know how to jazz them up. Regardless, I am going to peek at some of this stylist’s other videos. She intrigues me. By the way, my MIL passed away at 96 as a deep brunette. I could not have pictured her any other way. I’m not sure that I will ever be ready to go grey. C’est la vie.
Loved your entire comment here, Deborah…I may be just like your MIL and still be a honey blonde until the end…but if not, then I looked in the mirror one day and the hair and face did not match up…we all know what is best for us and it doesn’t mean that we are attempting to hang on to youth…just hang on to our confident best. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the video….
I loved the WeatherTech commercial. it just made me laugh out loud when I saw it. I do agree with the points in the video. things that I wore when I was a bit younger. I’m 70, have started to look dated. and I think it’s because my body is changed and things aren’t as perky or tight as they used to be (lol) and that does make a difference. I think I’m going more now for timeless and classic rather than unusual and trendy. I really enjoy looking at your today’s news weekly. it’s very interesting. and the topics are usually spot on. Thanks so much, Pam!
You are welcome, Kathleen. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my! Regarding the fashion video and parkas- it’s been snowing all day in Chicago and later this week lows are expected below zero with more snow on Saturday. I need a parka! It’s 41 degrees in London right now! That’s a thaw! When it’s 41 in Chicago, I will dig out my wool coat.
lol! Stay warm, Michele! Any way you can!
I just watched the stylists video. I tend to be a rather minimalist and classic style person. My demographic is rural Colorado small town. I can’t remember seeing a long wool coat in the 30 years I have lived here. Our high today was 19 degrees and it snowed all night. We live in puffer coat, wool hats and scarves and insulated gloves. I have base layer bottoms and tops that are like silk and very warm under my jeans. My cardigans are thick and warm and oversized to fit over my sweater underneath. I wear thick Smartwool socks and LL Bean boots in the snow with sheepskin insoles for warmth and comfort. I live in flannel shirts, lately over a turtleneck shirt and heavier jeans in a boot cut or straight cut dark wash jeans. The only jewelry I wear is earrings to dress up. I’m 80, petite and dress for my area and my comfort. She would freeze here and look out of place.
