Travel clothes for tropical adventures
Happy Thursday, all! Today, I am going to discuss travel clothes for tropical adventures.
I made it a point to notice what women wore for travel clothes for tropical adventures on my tropical adventure last week.
The challenges this time of year include cold weather in the mornings & nights, and warm weather during the day.
I do want to note that my wonderful hair dryer stopped working on the first day, so my tropical adventure challenge was looking like the cowardly lion most of the time!
Today’s picture is the only smooth hair shot I got…all others were the curly and fizzy mane.
Tomorrow I will share with you may favorite boutique and restaurants in a wonderful Mexican city named Bucerias.
For today, let’s discuss travel clothes for tropical adventures.
TRAVEL CLOTHES FOR TROPICAL ADVENTURES: WHERE I WENT
Mr. B’s sister and husband a part of a time share group with several locations in Mexico.
They are so kind to also share their trips with family and friends.
We have joined them three times…twice in Puerto Vallarta and once in Cabo.
All three trips were for them to escape really cold weather in their home state, so all three were in January.
They also go at different times of the year, so they are great hosts and know the area well.
I was pleased to spend the majority of our time in Bucerias, a tropical town not far from Puerto Vallarta.
On this trip, we experienced amazing food, beach life, shopping, the spa, and even saw whales from the beach.
My travel clothes for tropical life this time included resale finds from my new home town.
I wore the look from the top photo to this restaurant where the fajitas are cooked right at the table.
The jacket and necklace were both from LIVING CHIC in Abilene.
But, my eye was on the travel clothes for tropical adventures around me……
TRAVEL CLOTHES FOR TROPICAL ADVENTURES: MY OBSERVATIONS
I made sure to observe women around me who were visitors and locals to get a feel for the best travel clothes for tropical adventures.
At the resort, the majority of people were from Canada, and second the U.S.
I know because there was an event for all the first night and they asked us to raise our hands.
I saw casual-chic-resort- travel clothes on the women there.
Though it was chilly at times, the fabrics worn still appeared to be linens and cottons….some knit and denim.
I photographed this mannequin because I saw several locals dressed like this…complete with the accessories.
You can see the simpler travel clothes on the ladies to the side who were tourists shopping.
Just like where I now live, many of the businesses were owned and staffed by women over 50.
This lovely lady at one of the favorite restaurants is a great example of what I observed overall….clothing is light, flowy, colorful, creative, and outfits are with accessories.
Many tourists eat at the places in Bucerias and remove their shoes after dinner and walk back to the resorts on the beach.
Our hosts selected a couple of locations where we could eat and watch the sun set over the ocean.
So, as you might expect, the boutiques feature the same clothing for sale…light, colorful, flowy and with fun details and accessories.
I know many of you do not prefer ankle, cropped or capri pants, but the tourists in Mexico do.
I saw many of these different pants on women over 50 at the resort and in-town.
Of course, during the day many wore shorts or suits with cover-ups.
My only regret was not taking a couple of capri or cropped pants.
TRAVEL CLOTHES FOR TROPICAL ADVENTURES: TRAVEL CLOTHING PICKS
This TROPICAL NIGHT RUANA would be perfect for a tropical adventure like I experienced.
As would this one…which is reversible…I love a reversible garment.
This is the REVERSIBLE MIRAGE PRINT RUANA.
I know some of you balk at color and prints…but….When in Rome….right?
I promise I saw the tropical prints and colors in travel clothes on the tourists.
Ruanas make great wraps for the cool evenings.
Travel clothes for tropical adventures should include easy dresses that will not wrinkle.
That is for sure the Traveler’s collection at Chico’s.
This is the beautiful TRAVELERS BELL-SLEEVED MIDI DRESS.
I also would have worn this type of silky cotton dress…so easy and lovely.
It comes in regular and petite sizes…and is the POPLIN EMBELLISHED MIDI DRESS.
Also, don’t miss the SCALLOPED HEM POPLIN MIDI DRESS.
If I was shopping black garments, that one would be on my wish list.
I saw over 50 women at the airport and at the resort in printed pants.
In fact, one I saw at the airport may have been this pant.
It is the BRIGITTE SLUB STRIPED CROPPED PANT.
I prefer capri pants to shorts and I really regretted not packing a couple of mine.
But, I like these so much that I am going to order them.
These are the NO-STAIN PULL-ON DENIM CAPRIS….in alabaster.
Another nice option to replace shorts is the GIRLFRIEND CROPPED JEANS.…in indigo.
This top is not Chico’s but I actually saw it on a tourist, so I decided to show it to you after I asked her where she found it.
Fun and colorful with denim is the J.MCLAUGHLIN LOIS SHIRT IN PAPER GARDEN GEO.
I hope this post has given you ideas for travel clothes for tropical by seeing what women actually wore (local and tourists) and what is in stores.
The flowy-styles are something I really like and I came home with a swim cover-up that I will show you at some point.
On Sunday, I will tell you about the spa and what swimwear I wore….which was one suit all of the time that I dried on a balcony chair when I was not wearing it.
I do wish I had packed more of my linen pieces and capris. Other than that…I did OK…but it was warmer this time than it was when we went in January a few years ago.
Let me know if you have questions….and I will see you tomorrow with more from Bucerias.
BE THANKFUL AND KEEP SMILING!

So glad you got to enjoy a late winter getaway! Looks like you had a wonderful adventure, and I love seeing what your fellow resort guests were wearing. That first outfit looks magazine worthy, and as soon as I saw it my first thought was “That is SO Pam!” All your adjectives are shining in one well assembled look that could take you to so many more destinations than a tropical vacation. I would wear that to church in the summer, or to occasions like a luncheon or casual shower or birthday party. I’m still shopping sale coats, and now you’ve got me dreaming of summer clothes already!
I will wear it often! It was such an exciting find for me…and I ordered the blue Ruana too. Happy Thursday!
How beautiful. Pam. I’ll bet you had some fantastic food on the trip, too.
How fun to observe resort wear. I went on a girls’ trip to Hawaii in January, but we didn’t do a resort. Mostly saw bathing suits, coverups and shorts outfits. The only dressing up I saw was at a luau and that was quite mixed. I really like the maxi dresses and wraps the locals wore on your trip.
I actually like ankle pants as you show in your photo, Pam. The ones I feel are unflattering are the ones that stop at the fullest part of the calf. On me, it draws attention to that area, while the pants that are a smidge longer look more Audrey Hepburn-ish. More intentional? Whatever! The other option would be Bermuda shorts but with my veins I’ll stick to ankle length. Looks like a beautiful place.
We did! Too much good food…but tomorrow I will share my two favorite places.
I love to watch other women and see what they are wearing. Many locals and the tourists were quite in style with comfort.
Agreed, that is a fabulous outfit for travel now and summer later. I bet you will wear it often. Sorry about your hairdryer. The resort is lovely and it sounds like you had a terrific time. Great suggestions for travel clothing. If I still wore black and was 4″ taller I would certainly wear that traveler’s dress.
Each body type is different. I did see several petite ladies in capris…they may be like me and prefer that to shorts. I also think light airy dresses are an alternative to shorts in warmer weather. Thanks Susan.
What I like about the long Traveler’s dress is that it is a nice print with brown and cream…though it has black, that is not the star of the print. I want to see it and decide, but it looks perfect for travel clothing or for warmer weather events this spring and summer. Most of Chico’s dresses are offered in petites and misses. Thanks Kathie.
Oh, good for you!!! As a previously frequent traveler to Mexico, this makes me yearn to go asap. Still trying to figure out acceptable respite care for my father, but have tentative plans for Puerto Vallarta this June.🤞It will be a trip with my bestie, who has never been to P.V. yet. I like staying in the heart of P.V., the Zona romántica, with the cobblestone streets and long malecón. A big YES to capris and ankle pants, skirts and swimwear. Even in December to Cabo I was never chilly, but most restaurants have the gas fired heaters for evening dining comfort. I am always at my most colorful in México! 🇲🇽🌴⛱️
Mexico inspires color in my wardrobe and outdoor patio decor! Come back tomorrow to see my favorite restaurant in Bustarias!
So glad you took this late winter getaway Pam! Thank you for sharing glimpses of tropical weather fashion! Love the prints on the restaurant owner(?) All quite chic I think! Snowing here today!
I loved watching all the women and what they wore. The locals wore fun, airy styles. Enjoy your snow!
So glad you had a relaxing holiday. As a petite I love when ankle length pants are in as then I can sometimes wear them as full length without having to have pants shortened. I find capri pants hard to fit without having the proportions looking out of wack. I am fortunate to be able to wear Bermuda shorts in summer if the weather is in the 70’s or low 80’s. In hotter weather I only survive in cotton or linen dresses, in anything else I look like a dishrag. LOL.
I bet you don’t look like a dish rag!! But I understand…there are warmer days I feel that way!
Your hair is great tho I fully understand. I usually blow dry mine only when its real late or the humidity is low and or I need a haircut. I love capris pants become always warmer than others. Balk at color -NEVER!!
I love the flows blue print skirt! In hot weather flowy linen pants or dresses are my favorite but I do wear Bermuda shorts often. We went to Mexico for our granddaughter’s wedding at a resort near Rosarito. It was quite hot in the afternoon when she got married. Most of us were in flowly dresses. Mine is rose colored which she requested I wear. I still have it after 15 years!
Pamela, I would love to see your curly hair, embrace it. I have frizz too and just use snap clips to put it in a back twist up. Is travel in Mexico ok right now? We used to go to Cozumel and miss it. I also love the J Mglaughlin Lois blouse! Going to order that for summer🥰
Sadly there are many places in Mexico unsafe. Be alert when you travel and research the area. As to the hair…I just prefer it smooth and styled. I am not ready to embrace completely. Thank you though.
