Shopping for prints in a spring palette
Happy Spring Monday, ladies! Today, I am discussing shopping for prints in a spring palette.
I wear prints, mostly with casual outfits….and I tend to wear prints more often in the spring and summer. This is why I went shopping for prints in a spring palette.
I need prints in a spring palette because that is a void in my closet.
I believe I believe I gravitate toward prints this time of year because scarves and even some necklaces are too warm to wear in a hot climate.
And with my daily style adjectives that include the word, “creative,” I want to wear color and interesting prints.
And now my spring palette gives me permission to be “bright.”
I was glad on Saturday that I went shopping last week for prints in a spring palette, because it was right at 90 degrees.
This type of shopping for prints in a spring palette does have it’s challenges…so come shopping with me today.
SHOPPING FOR PRINTS IN A SPRING PALETTE: AT DILLARD’S
I took my trusty fan and went to Dillard’s to see if I could find any prints in a spring palette.
Since these garments are for casual attire…they needed to look good without a third piece, be comfortable, and in cool fabrics.
With three athletic grandsons, I am already spending quite a bit of time outside around football and soccer fields.
And most of you know, that I wear very few tee shirts.
Most prints are made up of “many” colors.
I took out my fan and would lay it down to see how many of the actual spring palette colors were in the print.
Successful prints in a spring palette to me have more than one color in the print on my fan.
Like this print.
This is the Ruby Rd.Stretch Cotton Jersey Floral Envelope Neck 3/4 Sleeve Top.
It is a beautiful print in a spring palette, however, I did not buy it because it would be too hot to wear for my outdoor events.
I did get sidetracked looking at this Lauren Ralph Lauren Woven Point Collar Long Roll-Tab Sleeve Button Front Shirt.
The color called festive red does match the bright poppy red on my fan.
But, it wasn’t a print In a spring palette, so kept moving.
This lovely yellow top was a subtle, beautiful print.
Sadly, it was a sweatshirt and would be too hot most of the time.
John Mark is a good place to shop for prints in a spring palette.
This color, citron, confused me with the fan…I still am not sure if it is more green or yellow.
But, though it is not a print, I liked the top for a causal tunic style.
Remember, I was going to look for the JOHN MARK WIRE COLLAR SHORT DOLMAN SLEEVE BUTTON FRONT DRESS from the shirtdress post…well, it was not in store.
And, the two tops I purchased and took home are not online. SIGH!
Maybe by the time I style the second one it will be.
But, the other one is in the outfit of the day…..
SHOPPING FOR PRINTS IN A SPRING PALETTE: OUTFIT OF THE DAY
This is the type of casual outfit that I want to wear out to the park or games.
Very comfortable and bright.
I know this print has much going on and some might say it is more cool than warm.
But, I was able to find enough of my colors in this print in a spring palette that I believed I could justify that it really is in the spring palette.
Though not perfect in every way.
I love this top by TRU LUXE JEANS at Dillard’s….but the actual top is not online.
Mr. B liked it!
I have owned this Chico’s bracelet for several years and I thought it went great with this top.
I have a feeling that I will wear this bracelet more than I have in the past.
The wonderful people at Easy Spirit sent me these Traveltime Clogs…which really is one of my favorite shoes.
I love the sparkly version for spring and summer, but you will see there are many colors and styles of this shoe.
I wish this one was more gold than silver…but there is a sparkly gold one that I have my eye on.
It is an excellent walking shoe.
Remember to use the code at checkout PAMELA20 to save 20%…try putting in the code even if there is a sale happening.
I loved taking out my new Straworth bag to the park…it was perfect to carry all I need for my grandson.
Water, a snack, tissues…you got I…all was in there.
This is why I need these fun casual outfits.
I introduced to you the fabulous Ivy and her business in the post: PURPOSE DRIVEN BRAND FOR STYLE.
I will love carrying the handbags the lovely ladies in Africa made with my spring palette outfits this year!
I love the joy of the prints in a spring palette, and though they are more of a challenge to find, I think it is worth it.
But, taking the fan shopping really helps to avoid mistakes with the prints especially if the print includes more blended colors.
I was drawn to one Ralph Lauren print, but the fan allowed me to see that it was a summer print and not a spring print.
I am learning though.
Thanks for joining me for shopping for prints in a spring palette. If you have any tips on shopping for prints, please share.
I hope to see you tomorrow…until then…
KEEP SMILING!
UPDATE
If you did not see the update yesterday in Sunday Reflections on the new blue at Chico’s, then make sure you see Leigh Ann’s reporting from one of the locations.
She sees this new color as a bright navy. Someone thought it was purple and it is not…all information is in the Sunday post.
That topper is a lovely, subtle print.

Whether shopping new arrivals or clearance sales, please shop with the links on my SHOPPING PAGE…thank you, thank you to all who shop this way.
I like how you are moving slowly and adding thoughtfully. Your foray into autumn wasn’t a miss in that I think you learned a lot from that experience on what to look for (and have had to purge less than when your wardrobe was full of winter black). I sense a real fabric fan is helping quite a bit as well. I too wear more prints, mostly stripes, in the spring and summer. I had an ah-ha moment when you said it’s because it’s too hot for a third piece. Of course, that is why I do it too, I just didn’t realize it. I do like a quality tee in the summer, and Chicos or JJill’s supima cotton are go-tos. I like your print and didn’t get an overall cool tone from it at all. I thought the yellow/citrus tunic too neon however and more suited to a winter, at least on my monitor. I so love you in these brighter colors and can’t wait to see you in coral or geranium, maybe with some parrot green.
The fan really energizes my shopping and doesn’t limit it at all. I am having fun. Thanks Linda!
Pam, you look so young and vibrant in that outfit! You are on the right track. I am planning to go to Dillards this week to look for that John Mark shirtdress. I love it and need to see the real thing. Hope it is in my store.
I hope it is too, Marcia. John Mark also has a top that is the same design as that dress. It looks like a chopped off version of the dress…but it was not in my store as well. If you try one of the dresses on, let us know what you think!
Spring shopping with your 🪭 was the best! Really liked the outfit for the day.
Amazing how the soft shades bring out your best.
Love the top on you. Definitely flattering colors!
You looked younger and more vibrant in that first outfit with all those bright colors and perfect shade of jeans!
Thank you, Audrey!
Thank you…I like this top so much!
Thank you, Debra! I love discovering that I am really a spring palette at springtime!
That’s a cute blouse. I’m just now putting away wool sweaters and moving towards cotton. It’s damp here so the weather will be cool/warm/maybe even hot on and off for several months.
With all that sports field time have you considered a top with an SPF rating?
Thanks Rose…I have…but, personally, I would rather wear the sunscreen and then the clothes I prefer. So far, the fields have places where I can get in the shade…under trees and even bleachers that face away from the sun. But you have a good suggestion.
Pam, you are absolutely glowing in your new colors!
Thank you so much, Tess!
love this outfit it looks great on you! I was hoping you could tell me about the jeans you’re wearing I have been looking for some just like those I’m also looking for the dress hoping my store has it in when I go there this week
I hope it does too, Janet. These are older jeans from Talbots. They are actually a cropped jegging, but fit me larger right now…so they look more like a regular cropped jean than a jegging. But you might spend some time on Talbots and look at all of the jeggings they have and go just a little larger for a looser fit. Talbots link is on my Shopping Page at the top of the blog. Thanks!
Pamela, you look vibrant and beautiful in your new colors! Thank you, your posts are always so helpful.
Thank you so much for joining along my journey, Tamara.
You do glow in your spring color palette! The citrus was the only thing I didn’t care for as it was wearing you instead of the other way around. The one you chose looks perfect for game practice and parks with your grandsons. I’m amazed how much the change in palettes has made for you. Shopping with your fan makes it much easier to stay on point. Try Kohls and JCP too. their casual clothes are surprisingly affordable and good quality.
That is why I go to Kohls and JCP often, Sydney. JCP has impressed me with their quality. They are always on my radar.
You look happy and confident. A friend of mine who does CMB analysis said that if the there isn’t much of the out of your season color in a print, it recedes. Here is the proof!
Wow Pamela. Very energizing in a good way and looking grrrrreat! -Brenda-
I would agree with that. I was encouraged to find prints I liked and that I believe will work for me. Thanks Deborah.
Thanks so much, Brenda! I am feeling great!
Pam, that blouse is one of the cutest items I’ve seen all season. It hits your creative, current and approachable adjectives. Its so very fresh and modern looking. The bright colors make you look youthful and full of energy. I like the way you have paired it with a lighter wash jean. I’ve seen the citron tunic at Dillards. It was displayed at the top of the escalator and it caught my eye on the way up. I agree with Linda that its likely a winter color. I saw a cute John Mark short sleeve camp shirt online that looks like a shirt version of the dress and is in the same yummy melon and soft turquoise. Its too long for me but it would be nice for you. Even though I’ve had my palette for a long time now I still carry my fan because lighting in some stores is tricky. I hope to start switching out my closet this week. I’m rather tired of most of my winter clothes even though its still cold in the mornings & evenings. Its spring!
Yes it is…and I am embracing a new season even when the mornings are cold. My Dillard’s did not have the top or the dress, but I saw the top online and thought about it. I did not get the Citron top…I was really just looking for prints that day. I am surprised that the two tops I purchased are not online, but I will keep looking and if they hit I will post the links. I love this top the best. Thanks Kathie.
All of the tops look so nice on you!
Thank you, Stacy.
Finding a flattering new top that hits all your adjectives AND is in your colors is a successful shopping trip, for sure! You’ve reminded me of something important by your example in this post. Our wardrobes function best when we shop with a specific goal in mind, and adhere to that goal. You found some great pieces that were in perfect colors, but left them on the rack because they didn’t meet the criteria for that day’s shopping trip. Thank you for modeling what I keep reading that we need to do, but ignoring. So often I get sidetracked by a good deal on something I have no business wearing and spend the amount I’ve allotted for shopping without finding what I set out to buy in the first place. I loved that Ruby Road 3/4 sleeve tee on you, and can imagine how nice it would look with a lighter color on the bottom, but completely understand that it isn’t compatible with our Texas weather. I’m sure readers from places with four seasons think we are crazy, but that could only be worn outdoors here in the three days of early spring that we usually have. My grandson’s first T-ball game is this afternoon and it’s going to be 92 degrees. I have the perfect short-sleeved top to wear in his team colors of navy/white, but I’m struggling with what to wear on my bottom half, as I have no shorts or capris at the new house. This weather is the just inspiration I need to finish relocating all my clothes and organizing them for warmer weather.
Also, on a completely different note, I found a dress at JJill yesterday I think you might like, since you are wearing dresses more often since meeting Ivy. You’ll think I’m crazy when you see it online where it looks dark teal, but I promise it is bright navy. The photo I took in the store looks more cobalt, so I’m not sending it, but it is the knit and eyelet dress in the color blue ink and it’s Style No. 315591. It has a 3/4 eyelet sleeve and I believe the terry knit is substantial enough not to show every lump and bump. It would probably be too warm for an outdoor event in our climate, but great for overly air-conditioned spaces like church and restaurants.
Thanks Lori…I will check out the dress!
Pam, I think we all agree – this print blouse is wonderful on you! And it does look great with your light-wash jeans. This shopping trip was a success, just finding this bright, fresh blouse!
I agree!
