Sunday Reflections – Update

Sunday Reflections

Happy Sunday, friends!  Welcome to my weekly lifestyle post called Sunday Reflections!

On this day, I share with you what my Sunday Reflections are from the past week to the week going forward.

Yesterday, I spent the day with one of my six-year-old grandsons (there are two that are the same age).

We did some grocery shopping together…and yes, the bakery department is always a temptation…

Join me first today as Beck and I go to the store….

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS:  TAKE TIME AT THE STORE

Sunday Reflections

The grocery wasn’t all about donuts and chocolate milk…though his face says it was.

It is always a learning experience.

I encourage you to take time with grandchildren at the grocery…we went through all of the “unusual” produce…some I was not familiar with…we looked each one over, said the names, and read the common use.

These are the types of things you see in the baskets on “Chopped.”

It really was a great way to spend time together and to learn.  He was amazed that people eat cactus.

Beck is a pretty healthy eater, even if enticed by donuts.  He prefers fruit and brought home grapes and watermelon.

Sunday Reflections

But, he does not like dark chocolate that I keep in these candy bowls …mostly for Mr. B.

Thinking back over people in my life, it is men who have been bigger choco-holics than the women.

When I was a high school teacher, the kids would tease one of the math teachers because he could not be without chocolate long.

With that said, the little guy with me today is not really a chocolate fan…not even tempted by the chocolate donuts.

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: COLOR STORIES

Sunday Reflections

All of our color discussions lately have been so much fun.

I love how we learn from one another.

After Mary asked how to understand the differences in the navy colors, Kathie sent to me this graphic from Kettlewell.

Let us know if this helps you, Mary.

I still have not seen a bright navy color that matches up with my color fan.

But there is a new blue on the scene…..

Sunday Reflections

The color is called Blue Casa and is featured in the new Travelers Collection at Chico’s.

I really would like to see this in the store.  It is difficult for me to tell if it is a good blue for my palette…or too cool.

Sunday Reflections

I am very drawn to this piece and have always loved beautiful toppers.

It is the TRAVELERS COLLECTION SHEER JACQUARD TOPPER.

If I am able to find out more about this blue, I will let you know.

CHICO’S UPDATE!

Sunday Reflections

Hi ladies!  After so much discussion this morning on the new color at Chico’s, Leigh Ann went to one of the San Antonio locations and had a look.

She sent this color and described the color as a beautiful bright navy….and said “definitely no purple here.”

I so love her picture and how pretty this blue is!

Thank you to Leigh Ann!

Sunday Reflections

Here is our number one top seller from the past two weeks on the blog.

Purchased by blog followers with my links, many of you wanted to give this PURE JILL EMBROIDERED SHIRTDRESS .

Thank you so much to everyone who shops with my links…it really does keep me here and help to cover blog expenses.

Sunday Reflections

My friend, Ana, who did my manicures for years in San Antonio might fain when she sees me in pink.

Pink was a color I told her I could not wear…well, guess what?  I can wear it!  I was so surprised when the pink drapes went across my face!

I hope to show you some of the pink I have added to my wardrobe this week.

Sunday Reflections

I also plan to discuss shopping prints with my new Spring Palette this week.

I do love to wear prints…especially in spring and summer to speak my creative adjective.

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS: WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE

Sunday Reflections

I use to sing this verse to my young children to help them wake up in the mornings.

I like to reflect on it this week to remind me to be thankful for every day…no matter what the day holds.

The day may not be perfect weather with an uninterrupted schedule and problem free…but it is still a gift from God.

And I want to remember that every day…I hope you will join me as I purse my word for the year…GRATEFUL.

Thank you for being with me today for Sunday Reflections…I hope you have a glorious day…and hopefully I will see you tomorrow as I head out once again as a Spring..until then…

BE THANKFUL & KEEP SMILING!

  1. Happy Sunday Pam!
I found the graphic of the blue colours most helpful! The new blue that you showed came through more as a purple on my screen (particularly the second outfit), but I’m wondering if that is part of this new hue. I’m musing about changing the colour of my bedroom to blue and I was intrigued by the colour on your fireplace wall. I’m not sure if you painted it yourself, but if you did, what company and paint colour is it? Loving seeing your transition into Spring – very timely!! :-).

  2. For bright navy, you might try Lands End. I often find their navy much brighter than what I see at Talbots or Chicos. I remember a post you did with Susan une femme, and I asked about navy (not marine navy) for autumns; she said she felt all seasons could “fudge” navy into their wardrobes, so long as it wasn’t too dark. I’ve tried to heed that advice. Marine navy is too hard to find to use it as a core neutral.

  3. What a fun shopping adventure for you and your grandson. Did you bring home any cactus to try? I love that blue color and I think it looks like spring, at least on my computer. I hope you get to see it in person because I think it would be stunning on you. Head’s up to anyone still thinking about the J Jill shirt dress. Its now on sale and additional 30% off. I just ordered it. Looking forward to seeing you in pink for the first time. I never used to wear pink but have become of fan of the very warm pinks in coral, salmon etc. Happy Sunday. I will be singing that Psalm verse for the rest of the day.

  4. Hi Barb, I cannot find the name of the exact blue. I apologize. But it is a BEHR DYNASTY Blue and they have several dark colors at Home Depot. I thought I saved all of the color names, but this morning cannot locate them…if I do I will let you know. I love the quality of this paint…it is beautiful and it is a great quality with grandchildren playing in the house. So sorry I cannot remember the exact color name.

  5. That is why I held on to my navy pieces…I figure I can wear them no matter what. But, I would like to add a brighter one for warmer weather. Thanks Linda.

  6. So will I…and it is a good one to sing often. Thanks for the information on the dress, Kathie.

  7. Talbot’s India Ink is a brighter navy that may work for you, but they don’t offer very many pieces in it.

  8. I have at least one piece in it, Mary Jo and I agree that it is a lighter navy. Thanks so much.

  9. Pam, what a darling grandson you have! He is certainly a reason to be grateful. Your pink nails look beautiful, and I can’t wait to see more pink. It’s a happy color. Happy Sunday.

  10. I give thanks every day when I wake up. So very grateful for every day and I always thank God for the possibilities awaiting me in each and every day. It is so easy and natural to take a minute to be grateful. Something that I took for granted when I was younger.

  11. Love the pink on your nails! I think lighter polishes look beautiful and give a youthful boost. Happy Sunday, and Happy Spring!

  12. I’ve never heard of kettlewell. wow I’m looking forward to a deep dive into this unique shopping site.

  13. What a cutie your grandson is. We use to take our grandchildren to the market and each had to pick a vegetable for dinner. They are older now and so busy with activities that trips to the market are only a wonderful memory. In regards to the blues, blue is one of the only colours where all blues go happily with other blues. If you find something that looks good to you it should be able to wear with the blue you already have.

  14. Psalm 118:24 was a song I sang to myself when our children were young. Today I sing the song and know how blessed I am and as I care for my husband.

  15. I never thought I’d wear pink either. Using winter palette cards that I found on Etsy, I’ve discovered a couple of pinks that I really like. I even ordered a shirt from Eddy Bauer that I’ll wear for sun protection this summer.

  16. Thanks Linda…I am pleased to see this 6 year old wanting to eat healthier. Going to the market was fun!

  17. I love to sing Scripture. I agree with you that these songs will help us through anything!

  18. Being a Winter, I never thought I’d wear pink either. Using Etsy, I found some nice pinks using their winter palette cards. I even ordered a pink shirt from Eddy Bauer that I’ll wear for sun protection this summer.

  19. I love the bright blue! My Landsend navy blue winter coat is that color and I love it. Navy seems to be a color that most of us can wear. The Travelers blue looks too intense for me. It looks to be a purple blue and very dark. I wear light colors for the most part in the spring and summer. The warm pink on your nails would look terrific in a summer top on you with white bottoms or tan. Have fun with your new color palette! I’m enjoying your journey and am so grateful for your happy blog. Your grandson brought back so many memories with my sons at his age. Now I have great grandsons his age. Where did the time go.

  20. It goes too quickly! That is why I try to embrace every day as a blessing! Thanks Sydney!

  21. Be sure to let us know if you go to Chico’s and see the Blue Casa pieces in person. On my monitor they look bright with a hint of purple. That is a shade that I find looks good with my bright, warm, medium complexion. However, I would not wear the shade head to toe. I feel it is too cool for me. Typically when I wear a bright navy (they are hard to find) or a deeper, more drab navy, which I do not care for and do not often wear, I like to warm up the cool color by wearing a golden yellow, or tangerine, with it. Springs, or bright, warm, mediums in my preferred parlance, can wear colors from the cool side of the color wheel, we just need to stay away from any color that is drab or too deep. Clear chroma is what we need.

I did question some of the more muted yellows and corals you showed the other day. They are too muted to be in my wheel house. I find I especially have to be careful with pinks and corals. I do not like them to be muted, too pastel, or have a blue undertone. Some seasons mid-toned, clear chroma, warm pinks are hard to come by. I learned decades ago that the key to success in dressing in one’s best colors is training one’s eye. I believe that once an individual really learns to see how color reacts with their skin tone, swatches and color cards become unnecessary. For me the only wild cards are bad lighting in brick and mortar stores and poor color translation on my computer monitor. I have learned that some retailers websites cannot be relied upon to transmit colors with accuracy. I love Karina dresses, for example, but i have found that the color I get may look very little like what I saw on my monitor.

  22. I will let you know, Kathy. I am trying to get a report back from Chico’s on this color description. I am doing my best right now to use the fan for shopping, but I know it is not an exact science and shopping online is really difficult. I want to avoid colors on the cool side for me as much as I can. Thanks for being here.

  23. Your grandson is developing such good eating habits at such a young age. This will serve him well later in life. I know most of my bad eating habits were developed when I was young, & I am still trying to break them. The verse for this week is one I say every morning before getting out of bed. It sets the tone for the whole day.

  24. I always enjoy your Sunday posts, but today’s brought me an especially sweet memory of waking my daughter singing “This is the Day” – thank you! Your grandson is growing so fast, and I know how much you must enjoy spending time with him. I love the idea of exploring the produce department together, and may try that with my own grandson, who is four now. I’m one of the fans who ordered the coral JJill embroidered dress, and I look forward to receiving it soon. After checking it out in person at my local store I needed the tall sizing so my knees wouldn’t show, but it’s so easy to order through your links. I also took my color fan to the store to be sure the blue embroidery was also in my colors. The recent posts and conversations here have been a great reminder that I look and feel better in my best colors, and I’m back on board. I have just ordered Peruvian Connection’s Chatham knit jacket in a navy that appears bright in the catalog. It is an unlined knit that should work well in our climate, and it would be great for travel. I’ll report back after receiving it, but I think it is a style you might find flattering. One of today’s projects is sorting out the clothing I’ve brought into the new house so far, and coming up with some sort of closet organizing system. Adding “flattering color” as a guideline will help me make reasonable decisions on whether or not a piece gets space in the main closet. I love the lighter shade of nail polish you chose and look forward to continuing to follow your color explorations. Now that we seem to be locked into 80+ degree temps for the coming week, it suddenly feels like I have “nothing to wear.”

  25. Kathy,
Leigh Ann went over to Chico’s and looked at the color and sent a picture…I just updated the post.

  26. I know the weather changes everything…my post tomorrow will discuss that a little. I have re-done my closets three times since I moved here 7 months ago!

  27. Thanks to Leigh Ann for her in-person report! I miss your shopping posts with her. That sheer blue topper is beautiful, and might make the perfect gift for a friend’s upcoming birthday! As always, thanks for the variety of pieces you share with us. Even if they aren’t something I could wear, I always get such good ideas here.

  28. She was so kind to go look at this color for us. It is a pretty color and could make someone very happy as a gift.

  29. Please convey my thanks to Leigh Ann for sending the photo of the Blue Casa outfit at Chico’s. You are right. No purple tint. It is gorgeous and such a rare shade of blue! I wish the color were more readily available.

  30. How thoughtful of Leigh Ann to go out to Chicos and take another picture! It is fascinating to see how the original one from the website looks purple and to contrast it with Leigh Ann’s picture – a beautiful blue and no hint of purple! Thanks too for the information on the Behr paint Pam. I’ll definitely head over to Home Depot to check out their paint swatches. Most appreciated!

  31. Leigh Ann is the best…always so helpful when she can be. Have fun with paint colors, Barb!

  32. As an artist, I would call the Chico’s set a cobalt blue. To my eye, it seems cool and bright.

  33. My friend who went to the store, called it a bright navy and more warm. She went there to see it in person, so she could report back to us.

  34. Your Grandson is such a sweetie. As to the shades of Navy, it is a color that I don’t lean to myself but like Penelope (above) I also read the Chico set as a cobalt blue, giving reason why I personally find computer generated images can be a challenge. -Brenda-

  35. That is why I asked Leigh Ann if she would stop by the store and eyeball the color for us. Computers are a challenge with color.
