Vintage Find: How Would You Style It?

vintage find

Happy Friday, everyone!  Today is the first new segment called, VINTAGE FIND: HOW WOULD YOU STYLE IT?

The vintage find idea came from one of you when we were discussing, Would You Wear It?

I liked the idea and believed it was worth a try to see if you would like it as well.

For these posts, I would like you to PRETEND that you are vintage shopping with a friend.

Your friend tries on the vintage find, and says, “I really like this, but do not know what to do with it.  How Would You Style It?”

That is when you offer your styling tips.

It does not matter if YOU like the vintage find or not…you are helping your friend to see the possibilities.

I will probably feature finds from this store often, since it is my current favorite in Abilene.

Today, I am shopping at LIVING CHIC.

In fact, Abilene,…they are having a party tomorrow (October 17) from 1-4 PM with music, fun and drinks!

VINTAGE FIND: HOW WOULD YOU STYLE IT? – VEST #1

Our first vintage find is knitted wool vest.

It is from a New York fashion line called DAMEE.

You can see here that there is fun coming and going with this vest.

You are looking at the vest back here.

Your friend (who may be a little bohemian) loves it…so…How Would You Style It?

VINTAGE FIND: HOW WOULD YOU STYLE IT? – VEST #2

There is no tag with this one, but I heard the “Age of Aquarius” playing in my head, so I grabbed it.

Full disclosure: This black knit top is not mine.  I grabbed it from a rack in order to try these on with it.

I honestly do not wear knit black tops like this any longer.

Now, your friend loves this one as well…How Would You Style It?

What should she wear underneath on the bottom, shoes and other accessories?

I am so looking forward to your styling ideas for both of these vests!

VINTAGE FIND: HOW WOULD YOU STYLE IT? – FOUND MY OWN IDEA

vintage find

One of the reasons I like to shop here is that they do style several mannequins throughout their store.

Most of my puffer vests are shorter than this one, but I have never thought of styling one with my embroidered Chico’s jeans with an outdoor-style vest.

After looking over this display, I think I am going to give it a try and see what they look like.

Many of my favorite styling ideas from the past 17 years, have come from fashion displays in my favorite stores or vintage shops.

It is now your turn to share your styling tips on a vintage find or both of them.

I am so glad you are joining us today for the first VINTAGE FIND: HOW WOULD YOU STYLE IT?

It is up to you, as always, if I continue to do these posts…so your participation and thoughts do matter.

I hope to see you tomorrow…until then…

  1. How fun. I’ll give it a try.
The wool vest is real find. It very special and looks great on her. I’d suggest she try layering it over one her dark red scoop neck silky tee paired with black or very dark wash slim jeans and black ankle boots. She likes to layer necklaces and bracelets, mixing metals for interest. She has a large collection of fashion jewelry so she’ll have fun withf that.
Since my friend loves the fur number I would suggest two options. One is going full Sonny Bono with wide bell bottom jeans (yes, she has them), a peasant blouse with a deep v neck and big sleeves , boots with a bit of a platform and a big medallion pendant. The other option is a black cashmere turtle neck sweater, slim black wool pants and plain black boots for a column of color. This ensemble cries out for real statement jewelry.
Finally the puffer vest with the embellished jeans. Yes! I have a darling pair from Chico’s that I never know what to pair with. I have a new deep plum light weight puffer and I think a pink fine gauge sweater would pull it all together.

  2. Thanks Kathie…for starting this off with such fun ideas. I agree that that second vest screams for statement jewelry…so glad my mannequin also gave you a great idea. Thank you so much.

  3. So, for the first vest, I’d say slim jeans, a thin turtleneck in green or brown, cowboy boots in that western shade of brown-gold, and a slouchy bag. A hat if she were to go full on boho, or just hoops and call it done. The second vest I would let be the statement for a holiday look in dark red. Maybe a dark red thin sweater, some dressy black jeans, really slender black leather boots with a kitten heel and pointed toes under the jeans. Jewelry should be over the top. For a really contrasting, fun look, I’d say ropes of pearls.

  4. As the first vest is the star of the outfit, I would do a neutral column of color to make the vest stand out. For the warm toned person, the yellows and greens of the vest might look great against a column of brown. I would find a shoe or boot with some shine to it. Some chunky bracelets in colors to complement the yellows and greens of the vest would be the accessories I would add. For the furry vest, why not a great denim A-line dress with a lovely turquoise colored scarf at the neck to up the styling flavor, along with tall boots. A great tooled leather bag would complete the western, cozy look. Faux fur is quite warm, so this might be a great outfit for a cooler day.

  5. Thanks for playing along with us, Mary. I love the colored chunky bracelet idea…but I love fun jewelry always.

  6. For the first wool vest, I’d build on Mary’s brown column and repeat one vest colour at the wrist. From our crystal-bracelet shop, Stone Whisper, I’d compare a warm-brown strand with a green accent, keeping the trousers and top plain. Match the bracelet to either the vest or the boots. That gives the outfit one colour connection without competing with the wool texture and pattern.
