Hit Your Style Sweet Spot: What to Wear to a Baby Shower over 50!
Welcome to a new collaboration with Jennifer of A Well Styled Life and Pam of over50feeling40. We desire for all of us…the grandmothers, the professionals, the retirees, the volunteers… the fabulous women over 50 …to look and feel our best each and every day. After years of blogging for this audience, we have heard from so many of you about your discouragement and despondency when you look in the mirror every morning. But, we both know just how transformative style can be and we hope to encourage you with specific, step-by-step guidelines right here every Sunday. We would like to see all of us empowered with strength, joy, and confidence!
Each Sunday, we will bring to you a scenario we face each week and show you our step-by-step process as we decide what to wear…you will see on our individual blogs how we handle the challenge and seek our personal sweet spot for the day!
This week Jennifer and I are discussing what to wear to a baby shower! The last baby shower I attended was along with about 25 women over 50…all friends of the grandma to be. I was getting a drink when one of the other ladies called to my attention that everyone in attendance had worn only two looks. There were no skirts…no pants…no jeans. All of the ladies either wore a dress or tunics with leggings!! In fact one of the 70 year old ladies had the cutest of all the tunic/legging looks!
While I think any of these are appropriate (leggings, pants, skirts or dresses), I went with a tunic/legging style for comfort. Most showers involve much sitting while watching gifts unwrapped and I am most comfortable in leggings and pants. Not worried about constantly pulling a skirt down!
If I were attending a shower soon, I would select a style much like this….
I have been searching for the perfect classic white shirt for a long time and ARTFUL HOME WINTER COLLECTION has provided it! I would invest any amount in this shirt because it ends my search and provides all I need. I will wear this often… to showers, dates with my husband, shopping, church…just about any occasion.
This is the ARTIST SMOCK SHIRT BY PLANET and I do feel like it was designed just for me. It also comes in black…I think I need both! It’s 98% cotton, 2% lycra and completely washable. The design is super flattering.
And I love it with this slim black pant, black mules, and a black leather tote. But, for a night out, I would throw on some nice jewelry!
I love this look for a baby shower and feel completely confident in it…also, I would shop for the shower at MARSHALLS…that is where all of these cute pictures come from!
What do you like best for shower attire?? Please share and make sure you check out what JENNIFER OF A WELL STYLED LIFE is wearing!

I love that top too! It looks fabulous on you Pam. That is exactly how I love to dress!! I need that shirt 🙂
Thanks Karena! Have a wonderful week!
I need it in black too…such a great shirt! Thanks Jennifer
Baby showers are very much an American occasion – I've never attended one! But I like everything that you've posted. I think that it's hard to beat a fabulous white shirt and neat black pants and your understated black shopper and shoes makes the perfect outfit. (Although I might be tempted to add some colour in the shape of a statement necklace.)
I would love to buy the little monkey and comforter!
Very nice outfit. Agree on the classic crisp white shirt…can't go wrong. Celia
I like the smock shape of the shirt, so chic & it looks fab on you, Pam.
I love black and white together – I always opt for that look when I have interviews. The look is so crisp and clean.
Even though I am not over 50, I love the tunic and legging look! And I would probably wear it to a baby shower because you're right… Comfort with sitting! You look very stylish in that blouse!
Great look! Leggings & a great tunic/shirt is a great go-to look for so many occasions!
Very simpele, very stylish!
you look amazing! and that baby!!
So true…a perfect white shirt like this one and black pants can go any where! Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
I was so excited to find one I love! This search has gone on for awhile. Thanks for the kind words.
Thanks Alyson and thanks for stopping by. This is a great shirt…I will wear it often! Have a wonderful week.
This type of look really works for any occasion. I am so glad to find a shirt I feel confident wearing! Thanks Tami.
The comfort thing at a shower is huge to me…often homes have comfy chairs we sink into. I just prefer pants or leggings so I do not have to worry about it.
Thanks Andrea….have a wonderful week.
Thank you…and thanks for stopping by!!
Aww, thanks! This is one of my grandchildren who is actually much older now…I just love the picture! Thanks for stopping by!
I'm at that weird age – – 46 – – where I still have some tangential friends who are having babies… But more and more it's my friends children who are having the babies. And as always I require lots of sartorial help
Don't we all, Carla! That's why I love blogs! Most of the showers I attend now are thrown by the grandmas or their grandma friends!!
Love the artist's smock shirt. I had one in pink years ago and loved it. I like the BW contrast. I don't look great with white near my face so I'd put a pop of color in there, too.

Great idea.
That tunic is so fabulous! I would love to rock it with leather leggings!
Thanks for the support, Stephanie!
I am going to wear it this weekend with my faux leather leggings and I can't wait. Thanks for coming by!
