Fashion Over 50: Casual Black In Summer Months

It has been such a fun week discussing fall fashion and sale shopping, but today, I am back to styling outfits in different ways.  This is where I take pieces in my closet and put them together in outfits I have never worn together before.  This keeps me fresh for summer with new styles to anticipate every day.  Of course, I love to begin with a little black…since I obviously love wearing it all year long.

Today, I have styled a casual look which works for any of my laid- back events for July.  I wore this recently to a friend’s HAPPY 60th birthday party.  I love these SUPER STRETCH LATTIC CAPRI PANTS from Soft Surroundings…they are flattering, comfortable and have the interesting detail on the sides.(I have them in the slide show below)  You might remember this floral INC top from Macys, and I actually found the black kimono topper at a DSW Shoe store once.  One of my local DSW locations always has interesting kimonos and wraps at the front of the store for very reasonable prices.  When I wear all black like this in the summer, I look for a bright top and accessories to style around the black. These are the pieces which say summer in this look.  Also, these materials are very light.

Remember, for Nordstrom account holders, the early Anniversary Sale purchases are on!  Also, Macys, Chico’s and Talbots have incredible pieces on deep discounts right now.  July is the time to SHOP…love it!  I have seen great accessories as well in these sales!

Does anyone have big plans for the weekend?  Remember to return tomorrow for WOULD YOU WEAR IT?  Day and give your opinion…until, then remember IT’S FRIDAY, and

Keep Smiling!

  1. I really like this, being a big fan of red and black together! I like the crossover on the top. Like a wrap dress, that’s a very flattering style and the V-neck is also flattering. Love the capris! Tings with extra interest like this just add so much to an outfit! I have noticed that our DSW is carrying kimonos, scarves and accessories more now too. I have a coupon and am still in the market for a summer kimono, so there is my weekend plan!

  2. I am a lover of black as well Pamela! Thanks for your inspiration. My morning is off to a good start when you are in my inbox. Have a beautiful and blessed day!

    1. And your comment just brightened my day, Mary Ann! Have a weekend full of smiles and blessings!

  3. I wear less black in the summer, but I still wear black in the summer!

Looking forward to WY-WI day again. It helps me understand what I should or shouldn’t wear and why. It’s different for every one of us.

It’s also helpful to know that you are the same height and size as me.

  4. I always appreciate extra details on clothing. It’s nice to see those pants modeled in “real life”. My hat’s off to you for wearing black or red in summer in TX. I’m in FL and red and saturated pinks always “feel” visually too hot for me, although I love them.

    1. I have never thought of them as visually too hot. I guess because I am not really a fan of pastels and visually light colors. Something to think about. Thanks Kim

  5. I need to take the time to experiment more. I appreciate your help with that! Great pieces; killer shoes!

  6. I really like this outfit. It is casual & classy. Also love your photobombing kitty. Have a great weekend.
