Today's News for Women Over 50 on Over 50 Feeling 40

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Today’s News for Women over 50.  This series of posts are the products of my research around the worldwide web and curated into a series of news articles that I believe will be of interest just for you ….the vibrant, intelligent women over 50.  As I have said before, elegant women are informed women.  If there are any health decisions you contemplate after reading something here, I do encourage you to discuss any changes in your health maintenance with your primary physician to make certain you are making the best decision for you.  I have something fun at the end today, so with that said, here is today’s news……

NEXT, DEEP CLEAN WHAT STAYS BEHIND

Laundry Hacks on Over 50 feeling 40

I do have several headlines this week related to the pandemic.  I am hoping these will help some of us as we navigate through this challenging time around the world.  Parade Magazine shared a laundry hack on their site originally from Tik Tok.  Since I do not believe that many women over 50 are on Tik Tok, I thought you might appreciate seeing this story and get the clothes ready which survived the great purge! Look over: This Laundry Stripping Hack went viral on Tik Tok, and now everyone’s deep-cleaning their clothes.

HAND CLEANING COMES WITH WARNINGS

Hand Sanitizer News on Over 50 Feeling 40

The first time I learned something new about hand sanitizers was a few weeks ago when it was announced not to leave it in a hot car…especially during heat over 100, because it can explode and catch the car on fire. Got my attention here in South Texas and I rapidly removed it from our cars and told my children. However, several media outlets came out with disclaimers which said it was unlikely that could happen. I left it out anyway. Here are a couple of stories from AARP on hand sanitizers that you might find equally as interesting:

Time outdoors without bugs on over 50 feeling 40

Mosquitos…they are pesky little creatures that spoil our outdoor fun this time of year.  I will try anything to keep them away and not have to rub poison all over my arms and legs…or my grandchildren.  When I saw on the Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family show this story, I thought you might want to know about it.  Here is  All-Natural Homemade Bug Repellents.

NOW THAT THE BUGS ARE TAKEN CARE OF….

Cookout Guidelines for safe events on over 50 feeling 40

We have the bugs out of the way or on their way to being out of the way…It is natural that after being shut in…the days are longer…the sun is shining…that we would desire to be out more.  So from Very Well Health, here is How to Safely Host a Cookout according to the Center for Disease Control.

Healthy practices for adults over 50 on over 50 feeling 40

Before we end with something fun, I have a couple of articles concerning good health.  Remember to discuss anything you read with your primary care physician before you make big changes.  I will be the first to admit that I do not exercise 300 minutes a week.  Now, I want to know if that is true.  See what you think of these two articles;

MEET AN ELEGANT WOMAN

The Style Crone on Over 50 Feeling 40

Because a reader asked me to show examples of women I considered to be elegant, I thought I would introduce them occasionally on the news posts.  Please meet the stylish and fabulous Judith Boyd from The Style Crone.

I first discovered Judith shortly after I began to blog and was immediately taken with her style.  She defines the word “fabulous.”  But, it was her journey at that time of her life that truly captivated me as she shared her love story with her husband and his struggle with cancer.  She took readers along with her through the sickness and then the goodbyes.  She has persevered and thrived since then.  You will love reading her blog and seeing how she displays elegance in every way.

Please share your thoughts on any or all of these headlines….enjoy today’s Fabulous Finds slideshow…and always, ladies……

KEEP SMILING!!

JUST A NOTE:

Pamela Lutrell for Goli GummiesThere are several ways that I generate income through this blog in order to cover business expenses and give myself much needed income.  Purchases through the slideshow links is one way, ads on the page is one way and a new way is through ordering or re-ordering the GOLI Apple Cider Vinegar gummies through me with my GOLI LINK HERE.  Again, if you are not familiar with the benefits of apple cider vinegar, you should speak with your personal physician.  My husband and I are sold on the benefits and I am proud to represent this product.  I am going to leave this at the bottom of my posts so that when you, friends or family would like to order you can use my link.  Thanks for the support.  This is a great product; as well as, the ones below!

  1. Good morning. IT is hot and hazy(Saharra dust in the air) here in Florida this Am!
enjoyed your post, esp. the Style Crone whom I ha d never heard of before. She is very unique-another Iris Apfel!Glad all is well with you. Stay safe!

  2. Lots of interesting items today. I am going to try the laundry stripping this week on some of the outdoor work clothes after I find the Thieves products or similar ones. I am not a big closet pruger anymore as I have in the past gotten rid of things that I regretted later. Now I just do it a bit at a time so as not to get carried away. When reading the ingredients for the natural bug repellant I was a bit worried at the high level of essential oils included as these are extremely potent. I have had very bad reactions to “natural” products and am very wary of that much. Great roundup of articles today Pam. Also, I do love the Style Crone as well, her house and lifestyle are interesting to follow.

  3. Some great articles! The one on laundry stripping was equally fascinating and horrifying! Makes me shudder to think what my towels might look like!
I’ve been trying to purge and love the advice from Kristyn Ivey. Our area is still not picking up donations, so the number of bags in the garage is growing. Thinking about how I’m wearing clothes and now and what I will need in the future will help guide me to choose what gets a prime location in my closet, what gets stored and what is getting donated.
Judith Boyd is someone I will definitely be following.
    Have a great Sunday!!

  4. The link on How to safely host a cookout in my opinion is irresponsible right now. No one should be gathering for social reasons. Please be safe and think of others.

  5. Hi Elaine, I actually believe sharing articles like this discourages people from hosting events…once they see all that must be done to safely have people over. We were going to have a Father’s Day cookout and after considering safety measures and watching a spike in Texas, we cancelled it. It is good to be completely informed and then we can make our own decisions but thank you for pointing it out.

  6. Thanks for calling attention to that, Diane. Others might have the same issues with essential oils.

  7. Thanks for today’s links. Since I am knee-deep in packing up for our Thursday move this week, purging not only my closets, but household items as well, I am amazed at the quantity. We just moved three years ago, and I was fairly certain I had done a good job of purging things at that time, but keep finding more that I could do without. My goal this time around is to bring NOTHING into my home that I do not absolutely LOVE or NEED in order to go about my life.
From Oregon, a happy Sunday to all! 🌼

  8. I had also read that hand sanitizer likely would not explode if left in the car, but the alcohol can lose its potency, so you did the right thing by removing it.
I had been taking an aspirin a day for several years, but when I had my wellness visit with my doctor earlier this year, we decided to discontinue it. He said the protection from heart issues was minimal, & it can cause more bruising & bleeding. As always, these articles are great food for thought.
