What we learned and saw in San Antonio

Happy Friday!  Leigh Ann and I are back with what we learned and saw in San Antonio while out and about this week!

Yes, when we go out looking for fun places to show you that are off the beaten path, we always learn something and this trip was no exception.

Today, we are taking you to a lovely boutique which combines local artwork and fun fashionable styles….Iva Style in the Alley on Bitters.

Come see what we learned and saw in San Antonio today…

WHAT WE LEARNED AND SAW IN SAN ANTONIO – FIRST

What we learned and saw

Let’s shed some light on what we learned from what we saw first.

What we learned and saw in San Antonoi

Iva Style has amazing accessories and there was so much to see.

But, what we learned and really enjoyed is how creative she is with vintage brooches…which are not for sale.

She uses some of them to decorate the throw pillows throughout the shop since she also sells vintage furniture.

I love this idea and may use it at least once at home.

And she used this amazing brooch in the back of an oversized garment for better fit.

Another idea I am going to try at home!

Iva Style is a perfect blend of local artwork and beautiful fashion which is a party for your eyes.

A boutique that honors creativity and local work really inspires my loyalty.

It is the type of boutique you do not want to leave….in fact, there is a couch that speaks to me sit and stay awhile!

The little Italian leather crossbody bag is one of the most popular accessories and they re-stock often.

The clothing is lovely and we saw several short and long dresses we liked.

We also learned and saw that there is a local Japanese artist who makes accessories with Japanese kimonos.  Her work is gorgeous!

This rack shows you her work with long earrings…I will remember these for gifts.

The hand-painted sea shells were amazing….I appreciate artists so much who can create beauty like this.

What we learned and saw while in San Antonio

Leigh Ann and I both enjoyed our time at Iva Style and do plan to return.

What we learned and saw in San Antonio

Something I personally confirm as we go out and about with the intention to share what we learned and saw in San Antonio is the importance of small businesses to a community.

I want to encourage all of you to support your local small businesses.

With the shut downs followed by a recession, we need to do what we can to help the small business owners stay alive.

I want to see more shops like Iva Style!

We will take you to another one soon.  Thank you for encouraging us to take you to these behind the scenes places…I hope you are still enjoying the trips!

Remember, Sunday is the last day for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

As fall fashion infiltrates into the retailers, some have cut even more on their summer clearances.

You can check out your favorite retailers on my SHOPPING LIST PAGE.

  1. Even though her vintage pins aren’t for sale, they sure are inspirational! I love to browse the jewelry at estate sales and will have to attend more of them now that I’ve seen the way she uses these items! Love the idea of cinching up too big garments this way too. Being a painter, I’m drawn to the little picture of houses on the stand…I will be getting paints out today to design something similar! And painting inside shells… just an abundance of inspiration! What a lovely shop, I’d definitely be going back too!!

  2. I absolutely love these posts where you show us San Antonio and the surrounding area. My husband and I drove my parents down to Houston, from Indiana, to visit my brother about 10 years ago. After our visit, we drove to San Antonio in order to see some of the sights. We were there less than 48 hours and I am sure just scratched the surface of things to see and do. I have no idea if we will ever get back there, so these posts are so enjoyable.

  3. Fun post again. I love the small house painting, too! I have seen shells like these decorated with thin paper napkins and the sealed with modge podge

  4. This is one of my favorite shops in San Antonio which I frequent often. I love her jewelry selection. She carries a local San Antonio jeweler, Susan Shaw, who I just recently learned about. The painted shells are the perfect gifts for my daughter-in-law who embraces a casual, upscale, beach vibe for her home decor. And the vintage brooches on pillows-genius!
Thanks for sharing this great boutique, Pam.

  5. I’m with you, Pamela, I wouldn’t want to leave that shop! And that gorgeous seashell would be coming home with me. How lucky you are to live in such an amazing city!

  6. I am not a creative, artistic person but so relish enjoying the talented gifts of others. Shops like this one filled with so many delightful objects are always a joy to explore. You are fortunate to live in a town that celebrates artistry, and I always enjoy your sharing such places as this.

  7. Another fun day out and about for you and Leigh Ann! Yes, I love seeing these snippets of your vibrant city. Last weekend heading in to our favorite brunch spot downtown, my friends and I became very excited to see a new business about to open. It will offer painting and paninis! We all loved this quirky pairing and agreed we would be thrilled to spend time together channeling our artistic sensibilities while noshing on yummy, grilled sandwiches!

  8. Such a gorgeous shop to spend time with a friend. I love these little gems, so much more fun than browsing online. I know what you mean about just sitting on the sofa and soaking in the atmosphere. We have very few of those left in our area, so relish the chance to get out for a day trip with a girlfriend, of course I always come home with more treasures than I expected but then they remind me of a wonderful day. I do enjoy your sharing with us. Thanks.

  9. I have a brooch pinned to a throw pillow from IKEA. I thought it needed something more. I also thought I invented the idea until I saw it in a magazine; likely I had seen it somewhere before and it just cooked in “back of brain” until needed). I loved those earrings made out of kimonos, and they would indeed make great gifts. Lovely shop.

    1. I just now pinned a brooch on a pillow for the first time! Love this little touch! Thanks Linda!

  10. I have a beautiful mirror trimmed in copper and metal that I purchased from the Blue Horse Gallery in San Antonio years/years ago….I still love it hanging over my entrance table. Is the Blue Horse still there? Antonio has gorgeous shops; you are so lucky.

    1. I believe the Blue Horse Gallery is in Boerne which is a suburb of San Antonio. Next time we are in Boerne I will check it out!

      1. Pamela….can’t believe I still have my receipt from the Blue Horse Gallery….it shows the address (from 1993!) as 302 N. Presa, San Antonio 78205. Isn’t this fun!?

        1. Perhaps they moved to Boerne…at least I am seeing they are still around. I am so impressed you have that receipt!

  11. Ooooohhh, I love this! I’m going to look thru my cache of pins and jewelry to see what I can find. Look out pillows, I’m coming for ya. Such a cute store, thank you. I just love your blog.

  12. I’m with you and Leigh Ann- love small shoppes around here too, more for their creative touches in jewelry and accessories. You’ve pointed both out today!
I too hate to leave these shoppes once I start browsing. And buying!
Thank you for taking us along on another adventure in San Antonio!
