  1. The outdated home trends seem really, really outdated to me. I am one so-called “boomer” who honestly doesn’t like any of the ones shown. They honestly think that people of a certain age like these? Seems to me they didn’t really do the research.

  2. I fear that many media outlets today are stereotyping boomers to be things we absolutely are not. This article annoyed me a little. Thanks Karen.

  3. I still have one of the outdated trends in my home and it works well for me and I do not see changing it anytime soon. I do have vertical blinds on a floor to ceiling window wall. I keep them open mostly but on colder, windy days and nights I do close them to make it warmer in the vaulted ceiling room. I have great windows but that many windows can make a room chilly on the bitterest cold winter days. And I close them if I am dog sitting for my kids so the doggies do not see deer or squirrels or ducks on the pond or anything else they may bark at during the night!!!

  4. I have friends with a lovely home and these vertical blinds. I would never consider them outdated. These are friends that live in a warmer weather climate….crazy how some media will approach things like this.

  5. I agree! I too am a “Boomer” and absolutely none of these are in my home. I do have some lovely oak furniture pieces my husband made for me that I will never get rid of, because I love him, I love the furniture pieces AND I have a great appreciation for natural wood furniture! What a silly article. LOL Does ANYONE actually have any of those items still in their home? I think this “millennial” needs to actually visit some “Boomers!”

  6. I have never liked any of the trends described in the article. Who are these people talking to?

  7. I suppose they are talking to the younger generation. I just hate that they did it in such a way as to make us look lame.

  8. Oops…I have a popcorn ceiling but don’t have the $$$ to replace/renew…so I live with it and figure the next owner can take care of it. I hate it but am happy it’s not in every room! I guess we have to live with things we really don’t like but, due to finances, we don’t have a choice. Sorry if I sound grumpy about this….

  9. You don’t sound grumpy at all. Through out small remodels we had to say no to many upgrades due to finances. There are other things I wish I could’ve done, but renovations are so costly. I understand!

  10. Oh my, I’ve seen waaaaayyyyy more millennials than baby boomers with signs all over their walls. I’ve seen way more budget furniture and pastels there too. There’s a reason they call it “millennial pink.” I think somebody needed to write a fluffy column on deadline. We can change our fashion easily, but custom window coverings, etc. are expensive. They should not be changed out because somebody decides we should all be tired of it.

  11. What a great variety of articles you shared today. I appreciate the research you do for us, and am off to read in depth the health and fitness ones. Thanks, Pam!

  12. I walk a lot but am going to do the walk off 10 pounds exercise.
I am also going to increase my collagen-producing food. I sometimes have bone broth but am going to make it a priority for at least 1 lunch a day.
The whole boomer nonsense used to make me crazy but now I ignore it. These writers — and there are plenty of them out there – have no idea what they are talking about. Carpeted bathrooms were my parent’s’ generation: I never met anyone our age who has one.

  13. We just pulled up the carpet and now have a lovely tile that looks like wood in our master bath and bedroom. It took awhile, but we got there!

  14. No disrespect intended, Pam! I have wall-to-wall carpeting in my bedroom and love it — and the bathroom tile can be cold at night. I meant to ask and have forgotten. I still want to buy a rug like yours. Were you able to get the retailer to give you a link for us to use?

  15. Looks like lots of interesting reading Pam, although I’ve only had time to read the one you wanted feedback on.
I figured I’d probably have at least half of the faux pas, surprised I only had one, maybe two. But really, what does it matter what someone we don’t even know thinks about our home? I don’t have animal print, but it’s almost a classic. Yes, I have plenty of wood furniture, even oak. Would I buy it now, no, but it’s solid and from loved relatives, I’m keeping it. Only have one item of word art, but I like it. Just a single word, Simplify.

  16. I too have popcorn ceilings and I don’t get the issue. Who looks at ceilings? Now they are starting to wallpaper them. Imagine how long that trend is going to last. The same with wooden furniture. Why would I replace solid wooden pieces that have lasted 50 and more years with something made from particle board that will last a few years. Although I have seen it on television I have never in my lifetime actually known anyone with or have seen a bathroom that had carpet. I will admit to still having fake fruit which is in our rec room, yes we have one of those, which the grandchildren love to play with.

  17. I’m a Boomer. I never liked most of these styles; even when they might have been “cool”.
