style tips

YAY! It is July 1 …Happy Saturday, all!  Welcome to Style Tips with me and my blogging friend Jennifer.

On Saturday, we give you a fashion challenge with displays we have seen, and ask you to become the fashion stylists and offer up your best style tips.

Women love to read the ideas that the audience gives and it has been very helpful.

Remember, we are not asking if you would wear what you see, we ask for you to style what you see with your best ideas.

Today, I am asking you how you would style a white on white summer outfit.

So, grab a cool morning beverage and cozy spot….and let’s get started with Style TIps!

  1. I would style the top with white Bermuda shorts or white crop straight jeans. The flowy pants shown here are too pajama looking for the top.

  2. Happy 13th, Pam! I like white on white, especially if you create a crisp look. This top is a challenge b/c of the fancy sleeves with the kind of unkempt look of the body. I might try something different and use it as a layering piece under a jumpsuit (black, navy), so that the body would be covered but the sleeves would add interest to the outfit. The pants are versatile and can be worn with many colors.

  3. First, I want to thank you for all the effort you put into your blog. It is the first thing I look at each morning because I feel like I’m hearing from an old friend. I cannot imagine the time and effort you must expend to give us something every day. Secondly, I agree with MP3 above since I do not care for the pants shown. I’d wear more structured white pants, jeans, or shorts, but then add a colorful jacket, ruana, kimono, something with color. A topper that coordinates with the slight color on those sleeves would accentuate those sleeves. Happy…and joyful…July!

  4. Congratulations on 13 years of blogging. I only wish I had met you sooner. Interesting that you and Jennifer have both featured white with white outfits today. In general I don’t find all white outfits to be interesting or flattering on most women, the exception being women with deep complexions and dark hair where the contrast can be striking. A couple years ago Chico’s was championing the white with white look. I observed one of their associate in white jeans, a long sleeved white linen top and white sneakers and immediately thought of the “Good Humor Man.” This outfit is so rumpled it looks like PJs and I prefer breaking it up. The top has been pinned to give it shape. In your slide show I can see its a basic white tee with ruffled embroiders sleeve and I would suggest pairing it with denim shorts or tan crops. I’d avoid adding a necklace and letting the embroidery be the star. The pants appear to be linen. They could be paired with any color top, preferably one that is fitted or semi fitted to cancel out the PJ vibe. Personally I wouldn’t wear either as they don’t fit my style type but each or either could be versatile pieces for someone else.

  5. Love the top, but in keeping with an all white look, I would have to go with tapered jeans. Those are very unkempt looking on this mannequin, at least to my style. A few deep colored wooden bangles and wooden earrings, straw colored sandals or espadrilles, and a straw fedora top it off for me. A great summer look.
Thank you for keeping us engaged, Pam! So many years! Congratulations!

  6. Congrats Pam! I’d add some texture to this look with a straw bag and hat and some woven sandals. A longer necklace would be nice too. Happy long weekend.

  7. Happy BLOG Anniversary Pam! Love your daily messages and great advice to us.
I too live white on white but the fabric of these crops is a slight turn off for me. Just a but too flimsy or pj-like. I’d like to see this top with a nice pair of Bermuda shorts-9 inch? Perhaps a long denim shirt?
The top is rather low cut but may add to a nice cool feel. I’d add a summary necklace in natural tones in fabric/stones. I would include a pretty pair of flat sandals too!

  8. To wear the outfit as is (being casual) I would begin with the pants by cutting off their waist band ties if doable. (In other words only if the waist is elasticized for elimination of a bulge and making them more versatile to style with any top.) For the top; then I would loosely tuck it in to achieve an ‘hour glass shape’ and shall also add I would not be concerned about a ‘camel toe’ since the pants (though white)are very relaxed in cut. As to jewelry I would keep it to a minimum being that of gold chunky hooped earrings and a wide cuff, artisan engraved bracelet letting the embroidered sleeves of the top be the star of the outfit. Footwear would be a white flat leather strappy sandal or one in gold metallic whereas a soft sided woven handbag in a natural woven fiber (straw, raffia) might work with both to add some additional texture; then I would add my favorite sunnies to the equation. To conclude, I would also have to get out the spray tan as am so pasty white living where I do …. Lol!
-Brenda- Footnote: Camel Toe is a term used to describe reveal of lower intimate parts that is often created by ill-fitted or tight bottom garments or those that are not opaque.

  9. In keeping with my style mantra of “just one piece”, in this case a full cut, I would separate the pieces. The blouse I would pair with some slim fitting white jeans. The bottoms I would pair with a close fitting tank. Personally, I feel like I’m wearing a uniform in all white.

  10. I always look forward to your Saturday comments, Brenda. Thanks for joining in.

  11. Well, Happy Lucky 13!!! 🥳 I found you four summers ago, right after learning that the little private school where I taught would be closing down. I felt a little lost, like a significant piece of my identity had been stripped away. Decided I needed to seek out some re-styling advice for moving forward, and happily found so much more than that with your lovely lifestyle blog. You bring a welcome element to each day, and a wonderful touchstone for feeling connected to age-mates beyond my own small community. I am so thankful for you. 🤗💕

  12. @ Pamela… so sorry (as I am using my husband’s iPad which I am not use to) but also wanted to extend a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to you on the 13th Anniversary of your blog knowing that it takes both talent and determination to achieve such. With wishes of continued success …..
    -Brenda-

  13. I am so thankful for all of you, Connie! I look forward to hearing from you every day!

  14. At first glance with this outfit, I thought “rumpled.” The Talbots store employees needed to take a steamer to the clothing. They aren’t doing the items any favors by displaying them in this disheveled looking state. That said, I agree with what others have suggested…that more fitted pants would look better with this top . Add strappy sandals, a straw handbag, some earings and a bracelet. I think white on white can be lovely in summertime, if it’s done right and if you’re not too pale!

  15. Hi Pamela, Happy Blog-iversary! So funny, I enjoy looking back at your previous posts and yesterday I went back to your very first post and worked my way forward, skipping around a bit. I hadn’t even noticed that July 1 was the date on that very first 2010 post. Anyway, I had a lot of fun and I think I’m up to 2015 now (I started reading your blog in 2016). I so related to your post about your love of the Beatles, they are central to my life and their first appearance on Ed Sullivan Feb 9, 1960 was my 4th birthday! My brothers were 7 and 10 years older, so I got great music early in life. My aunt was even at a Beatles concert in Detroit when a girl fainted right next to her from hysteria! It’s on film somewhere. My husband and I learned of our shared Beatles love on on our second date ( I had a Beatles cassette tape in my purse, of course!)
Ok, now for today’s challenge. I’m not crazy about the outfit, it’s a bit too wrinkly for me and white washes me out, but…a wide belt and a bold colorful necklace would really perk it up, with some cute colorful wedges too. I’d like to see red in those items, or make it all neutral and metallic. Any combination of these things would really help the outfit out. Happy 4th to you and yours!

  16. I just used your link to Wayfair and found a beautiful Lolloi II large area rug for my living room area! Thank you for offering these links. Congratulations on your blog anniversary! I am new since the wedding posts. I love your style ideas and your joyful smile. Thank you for being there. I like the top on the model without the pinned waist and the skinny jeans.

  17. Happy blogoversary! Like so many others, you are always my first read of the morning.
It looks to me as if the store stylist has used a clip in the back to style this top. That always feels slightly dishonest to me. If I were the store stylist I would style it in a more straight forward way…a half or side tuck, a belt, perhaps. At first I thought this top was low cut, but I think a shadow is falling over the top. If so, I might style this top with the little white vest that Jennifer is showing today.

  18. Oh my goodness, those early posts were so bad…it took me a long while to learn blogging and find the ways to best help the audience. It is a little scary and embarrassing when someone says they went all the way back.
I can remember sitting on the floor in front of a little television and soaking in each moment of that Ed Sullivan performance. I loved their music so much.

  19. THANK YOU SYDNEY!! It is so helpful to me when readers shop with my links…keeps me doing this at the level I do it. Thank you so much.

  20. White washes me out (I would probably look like this mannequin). Neither piece is my personal style so I wouldn’t make an effort to see if it came in other colors. But I’ve enjoyed reading how others would style the pieces. Normally I wouldn’t comment if I feel this way but wanted to wish you a Happy Blog-iversary!
