  1. Interesting articles. There has been a lot written in the vegetarian-oriented press about the blue zones, just in case you want to look further. There is more involved in plant-based eating than adding more vegetables to your diet, though of course that’s a good start for anybody. I was surprised that the takeaway talking point from that article was to eat more veggies, when the article itself, and the studies, were in fact also quite focused on social connectedness and spirituality. That’s something I think is so important, and so often overlooked in favor of stressing exercise and diet (perhaps because it’s harder to monetize).

  2. I think that is one of the reasons I wanted to share this article, Linda. I have not seen others include the importance of faith and connectedness with others…and I personally think that is more the key than the other. But together, they would be powerful for extending life.

  3. I always find something interesting on the news for today. Thank you for sharing with us !
I just watched the documentary on NETFLIX about the blue zones. Lots of detailed information. I found it fascinating and am going to use some of the things in our life.

  4. I hope that JC Penney CEO is able to set in motion his ideas. We have a big store here and I often shop there looking for moderate priced clothing. Their girl’s size 7 to 14 dresses definitely outshines other retailers. I’m rooting for this retailer to take advantage of these inflationary times! Lots of good articles to get us in the mood for autumn! Thanks Pam!

  5. I am routing for them too, Linda. Every time I go there they impress me. Of course, you have to shop through some items that feel cheaper, but I agree they have done a good job in many respects. I hope they survive.

  6. Very interesting article on the blue zones. Was happy to see that I ticked most of the boxes. I’m trying to lose the pesky 10 pounds I put on during my husband’s prolonged illness & surgeries. The reminder to stop eating when I’m 80% full rang a bell. I’m a former WW leader so there’s not usually anything unhealthy in the house but portions can creep up. Thank you for another wonderful recipe. I will be making the apple chicken this weekend. Plan to serve it with roasted acorn squash.

  7. With acorn squash sounds so good, Kathie! Portions creep up for me as well. Thanks for sharing the reminder to watch it.

  8. Thank You for curating these great articles this week. The Blue Zone was so interesting. I reflected back to my family history and it seems the slide starts when my family hit their 80’s..My grandparents were organic before it became the thing to do, and I will admit I don’t know how to order at a fast food drive thru..I try to eat healthy and clean about 90% of the time…….Mindfulness and community is the key. I am going back to the recipes a bit later, don’t have the time at the moment. I do agree with volunteering, it’s rewarding and I’ve met some great people that I now can count as good friends. Love starting my day with your posts…….have a great week!!

  9. I found the article on fascia training very interesting. I have been told that some of my foot pain could be coming from tensing of my toes & muscles. This is something I need to explore further with my PCP. The skillet apple cider chicken sounds delicious, & I have added it to my recipes to try. I have always been a proponent of fall cleaning. I like to have my house ready for the holidays. Spring cleaning was necessary back in the days of heating homes with coal & oil because those fuels created a lot of soot & grime, so walls & windows & everything else needed a thorough scrubbing after the winter.

  10. I’ll am so looking forward to reading about the Blue Zones. I am really excited to try the chicken cider recipe! Thanks for keeping us all in the loop with Wednesday News.

  11. I’ve been following articles on living like a Blue Zone person ( diet; habits; even exercise line walking more) . Interesting!
As others I hope JC Penney holds it together to survive – I like some of their fashion. I wish their sales associates were a bit more customer oriented however. Maybe more training would be something to consider.
I was interested to read about this newly formed company handling (?) Ann Taylor, Loft, and Talbots too. I’m not sure I fully understand this new strategy entirely. Maybe in time. Thank you for all this research!

  13. The article on Paul McCartney’s new book was so much fun! Thanks for that, as I had not heard about this book and now can’t wait to see it. Those were such fun times for 4th grader and it still makes me happy to see those photos.
