Dramatic outerwear for women over 50

outerwear for women over 50

Happy Fashion Friday!  Today, I would like to show you some dramatic outerwear for women over 50.

When I use the word “dramatic,”  I am talking about outerwear that is either colorful, or in a print, or in a creative design.

This is not minimal, classic outwear, but for the woman like me who wants to tell the world she Is fun, dramatic, creative, joyful, approachable…and does not mind standing out or being noticed.

Also, remember that many of these pieces are outerwear and while fit is important, current dramatic designs are often oversized…I do size down, but it is not a tight fit.

I am super excited that next week I will probably be able to wear the looks I feature today, because a “significant” cold front is coming soon.

So, join me today as I give you ideas for dramatic outerwear for women over 50.

DRAMATIC OUTERWEAR FOR WOMEN OVER 50:  CHICO’S

While several retailers offer dramatic outerwear styles, I usually find mine at Chico’s and one other retailer (below).

Yes, the dramatic pieces are memorable…but with this pattern, I can wear several different colors underneath this ZIP FRONT SWEATER RUANA (on sale).  I have on the S/M

I love the print which is in my warm autumn palette, the faux leather trim, and the warmth…not too much, not too little.

Since it is in my color family, then most of my closet colors will go with this…including the kingfisher blue and deep green.

This is a confident style for me that puts a smile on my face…..it is also what makes my personal wardrobe fun!

Here is more dramatic outerwear from Chico’s and many of these are currently on sale…………………

DRAMATIC OUTERWEAR FOR WOMEN OVER 50:  BANANA REPUBLIC FACTORY

Dramatic outerwear for women over 50 is often mostly about warmth.

Since I live in a warmer climate, I am often shopping summer or early fall for outwear.  I do not wear heavy coats except maybe once or twice a year.

I like to shop Banana Republic Factory for a touch of drama…either in color or current design.  This is the outlet for Banana Republic and usually has great prices.

This is the Striped Shawl Collar Coat that is now only available in smaller sizes.

This coat has my colors and a bit of a southwestern touch to it.  It is warm, but not too heavy.

Once our weather is cold for longer than one day, I will wear this one often.

Here is more outwear for those of you like me to see…..

And I just saw this…now it is dramatic…FUR COLLAR PEACOAT.…and for those who want a flattering fit with the drama…this is it.

DRAMATIC OUTERWEAR FOR WOMEN OVER 50:  FEATURED PIECES

I continue to love these beautiful and comfortable Sidney Dress Booties by Easy Spirit.  So glad to have them in my wardrobe.

In the first picture, the sweater underneath is the Forever Sweater in light toffee.  Love this soft, light sweater and I bought it in three colors….great price too.

In the second, I am wearing the Talbots Pima Crewneck Tee in Cinnamon.   Comfy, colorful tee…love it.

I still love the  Talbots Out & About Stretch Jogger  and wear them often.

Finally, this lovely scarf is the Patricia Nash Doorway Scarf from Dillards.

Also, Patricia Nash has several lovely outerwear wraps…check them out at Dillards…there are several.

Ladies, I realize that many of you are in colder climates, and many of you prefer classic outwear for women over 50.

But those lovely selections are everywhere…I wanted to feature the dramatic outerwear for women over 50 because it is not as easy to find.

I hope all of you enjoyed the fun!

KEEP SMILING…IT’S THE LAST WEEKEND OF OCTOBER, ENJOY!

Remember,  you can shop ANYTIME with the links under the page at the top called SHOPPING LINKS...and I will receive a small compensation for your shopping.

Also, if I have posted a link on a specific garment, and you use that link to go to the website of the brand, but look around and buy something else, I still get credit…though you do not buy what I am wearing.

Please ask any questions… this income helps keep me here, because even at age 70, Mr. B and I need additional income.  He also works two jobs.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who shops this way.

  1. Of course, you know I’m the more minimalist, classic. I can still appreciate different styles that express personalities that differ from mine, and it’s also interesting to see outerwear for a much warmer climate, because we do have a warm, beautiful autumn season and can wear lighter pieces. We’re in the mid-70’s. Well, for today still, I think a change is on the way! I really like the green coat in the slideshow and have been looking for that style, only in navy or camel. Not easy at all to find in a store, and I need to try on for fit. The hunt continues!

  2. I am in love with that striped coat, and even though I’m on a low buy, you made me look :). But it’s only heavy enough to wear in Ohio another month. Funny how one person’s winter coat is another person’s fall jacket. I love western styling, but it can look a little like a costume in northern Ohio, so I prefer pieces like this that reference the look rather than go full on. You look absolutely beautiful in that coat and I can see it fits your adjectives and is very versatile for your palette.

  3. I like having something to look for, though I know it can often be frustrating. It seems that I am always looking for a more affordable version of an expensive garment I have seen.
    Happy Friday, Karen!

  4. Thanks Linda. According to our forecasts, I will be wearing this coat next week for at least a couple of days. I can’t wait…always love when I can pull out my winter garments….which I know are not winter for most of you. Thanks…

  5. Pam, I got the Sidney boots at your recommendation, and they are fabulous. Wore them yesterday and they will serve me well for a long time.

  6. Thanks for sharing Marcia! I think they are a fabulous bootie and I am so glad you agree.

  7. The striped and pea coats are something you would see in the climate I live in whereas not so much the Sweater Ruana which I do like BTW as ‘its pattern’ reminds me of artisan embroidery crewel work, that might be of an ethnic origin. -Brenda-

  8. What dramatic and fun outfits. I will enjoy seeing them on other ladies but probably not on me. The colors were amazing in the first outfit!
