What I wore to the gender reveal party

What I wore

Happy Monday, everyone!  Today, I have a special announcement, but let’s begin with What I wore to the gender reveal party!

I am so excited to share with you that we are about to see our Sensational Six grandchildren be the Sensational Seven, and this weekend we found out more at a gender reveal.

My youngest son and his wife are going to have their first child in the fall, and the six cousins, who were all in their wedding, could not be more excited.

They have been apart of witnessing this relationship blossum into a new family from the time they joined us all.

Nothing makes me happier than to see my children with their children…and have all love each other.

So, let’s begin my story about this past weekend with What I Wore to the gender reveal party.

WHAT I WORE TO THE GENDER REVEAL PARTY:  THE OUTFIT

What I wore

You will notice immediately that what I wore included two accessories…a pink package, and a blue package.

My daughter asked me to hold up the one I believed our new grandchild to be…so I held up the blue…since we were told about the baby, I have believed he was a he.

The packages show brightly on my black palette.

You are reading that right…black is what I wore.  I have not purchased black since I discovered I am a vibrant autumn.

However, when I tried on this linen Bryn Walker outfit recently at Dillard’s, I fell hard for it…and decided it was ok to own one black top.

It is not an excuse to own more, because black is NOT my best color and does cast shadows on my face that I do not want to see often.

Yet, I like this outfit…and I have always liked wearing black…but concede I look better in my best colors.

The top is the Enola Light Linen Cowl Neck Elbow Length Sleeve Oversized Tunic.

The bottoms are the Woven Linen Floral Print Elastic Waist Wide-Leg Pull-On Coordinating Pants…so comfortable to wear in a warmer climate.

Yes, all of the other ladies wore beautiful spring colors and floral dresses, but I was very confident in this outfit and happy it was what I wore.

what I wore

The day was long before the party and my feet were hurting so part of what I wore were these Easy Spirit sneakers.

I am very happy with the EASY SPIRIT X DENISE AUSTIN DILLI-LACE-UP COURT SNEAKERS…they are leather and I love the touch of brown leather on top.

These are on sale and if you combine them with the 30% off discount code for the last day of the Friends & Family Sale, you can get them for a great price.

The Friends & Family sale goes through midnight today, and you use the code FAMILY30 for 30% off.

what I wore

Of course, accessories are a big part of what I wore.

You know I love costume jewelry and have fun with it.

Every now and then I meet a piece of jewelry that just speaks ME.

This Kendra Scott YELLOW ROSE ANSEL ROSE STATEMENT CUFF IN VINTAGE GOLD…what created for me…I think.

It is beautiful and confirms my heart is with Texas, yellow roses, and wearing predominantly gold jewelry…even if what I wore was a color palette out of my wheelhouse.

That is what I wore to find out who would be joining the family.

WHAT I WORE TO THE GENDER REVEAL PARTY: AND THE REVEAL WAS

what I wore

I can remember when I first learned of gender reveal parties.

At first, I thought…that takes all the fun out of the delivery room…which needs a little fun at times!  Right ladies?

But, after a while, I learned to appreciate how it helps to know beforehand who is coming into the world.

Both sets of grandparents are very excited to prepare for this upcoming little one to join us.

And my grandchildren were beyond excited about this, you can see them peering expectantly into this cake to see what color the icing would be.

My oldest grandson, who is 11, told me the first picture I framed of the baby needed to be one of him holding his new cousin.

what I wore

Which will be a ……wait for it…..BOY!!

We will then have five boys and two precious little girls.

Those family football games are looking better and better in the future.

We are blessed and it was such a blessing to share this day with so many other wonderful friends and family.

One more thing about What I Wore.  I am adding more linen to my summer wardrobe, and very pleased with the quality of linen I have discovered so far this year.

Looks like linen, washable silk, and cottons will be my go-to fabrics as things begin to heat up…but don’t expect more black…this is an unusual event, but I liked it.

Any thoughts you have on What I Wore to the gender reveal party are always welcome…there will be more events to dress for coming up.

Now…..

STAY STRONG & KEEP SMILING!

  1. From one “Gigi” to another, congratulations on your growing family! Such exciting news, and your very special linen outfit was perfect for this fun occasion to celebrate your newest grandson. Like you, I am an autumn who still occasionally wears black when I feel it’s appropriate, regardless of my coloring. I have never been a huge fan of linen due to the wrinkles, but I got the pants you showed us from Chico’s recently and I like them so well I am keeping them and going back for another color. I especially enjoyed seeing your yellow rose bracelet – the quintessential Texas statement bracelet! I’m shopping for an 80th birthday gift for someone very special and I’m going to see if I can find that for her. Did you buy it in store or online? You’ve inspired me to start thinking about what I’ll be wearing to the marathon of family events I have coming up in the next six weeks – end of school programs for all three grands, birthdays for two of them, a graduation in Charleston and a special 80th birthday party I am coordinating for my best friend’s mama. After your gingham post I may wear my blush/ivory gingham shirt with ivory pants for at least one of those occasions; now I need to see what else fits and works for this festive time of year!

  2. Hi Lorri, thank you! I bought the bracelet online. Just click the link in my post and you will be right there. Kendra Scott has a collection called Yellow Rose.

  3. Congratulations Pam, and great happiness to all! What a joy filled time! A precious little boy is about to join your wonderful family- I particularly loved hearing your eldest grandsons comment of first picture with him.
You look stunning! Your new outfit is lovely and wonderfully versatile- just think of all the jewelry combos you can wear with it! Have a beautiful week!

  4. Congratulations! It is wonderful to see a growing, loving family. You ticked all your adjectives and wore your outfit with confidence. That bracelet is stunning!

  5. Your family looks so happy. What lovely joyous celebration for all of you. I love that the party was all about family. The cousins must be so excited. And the about-to-be parents look so happy. So, Happy Monday.

  6. Congratulations on the new grandson. That is exciting. You looked wonderful in the outfit even if part was black.

  7. Thank you, Deborah. It is so much fun to see all the grandchildren excited to welcome a new cousin soon. I do love this bracelet.

  8. Ha Ha…I know I like it. Thanks so much, Cheryll. We are thrilled to soon welcome another little boy!

  9. I will be having my first grandbaby in September- a girl!! So excited. Don’t think I will catch up to you in the numbers game but we are super excited. Late to the grandbaby game, but better late than never. God is good.

  10. Yes…God is good! This little boy will be the first grandchild for my new in-laws. I love celebrating this with them!

  11. Congratulations! Such wonderful news. I like the idea of a gender reveal party. Besides the practical aspects of knowing the gender, it’s a chance to share something very special with all of the family, all at once. As for black, the new top works, I think, because linen is such a nuanced fabric. It isn’t just a “wall” of microfiber black. I have a few black tanks and tees, and wear them in the summer particularly. They ground the brighter, lighter colors and make me feel more myself, and I like them when wearing the bronze makeup or bright coral lipstick I gravitate to in the warmer months.

  12. Thanks for sharing on the black linen. I will enjoy wearing it…but not going all in here. We are thrilled about our grandson on the way!

  13. Oh, so happy for all of your family! Your daughter-in-law and son look radiantly happy. Blessings in abundance. 💕

  14. Congratulations! Grandchildren are so special! I own a number of linen pieces and now that our temperatures are in the 90’s it’s time to start wearing them. It is not easy to find black linen; both of mine are older J. Jill pieces. I wear the dark tops with white linen pants and fun jewelry. Look at J. Jill’s linen collection; they carry a green and a brown. Perfect for autumns!

  15. I have featured some of JJill linen here on the blog. They do have nice choices. Thanks Linda!

  16. Congratulations to the whole family. Such a fun gathering. We also have 7, so the holidays get more and more interesting as the group grows.

  17. Congratulations on the new addition! Grandkids are such fun! You’ll have to empty your garage and turn it into a bunk room for all the sleepovers! ;-)) I think the black and white combo outfit looks very pretty on you with your blond hair.

  18. Congratulations on your new grandson! And no matter what the others wore I really liked your outfit. It looked very comfortable. I really do like those shoes I’m heading to the website today.

  19. Pamela, I know what you mean about wearing black..especially near the face. All black seems to drain color from me…I like black so my solution to wearing it has been to lighten it up…meaning, I wear a white shirt under a black item or if it s a blouse like you have on I wear large pearls at the ears or a Pearl necklace long or short depending on style of serta or blouse. Having some white or off white near the face brightens up the face. For me this brightening method
works, the other method for me is wearing a bit brighter lipstick when wearing black. This may not work for everyone but for me at least I can wear black once in a while.

  20. Good suggestions, Karen. I did go lighter with my eye shadow and blush. I have built up my navy pieces, but this outfit drew me in. I will wear it more, but it does stand alone in my autumn wardrobe.

  21. I love the holidays together and love our in-laws. We have a wonderful family for celebrations!

  22. Congratulations on the new addition to your family! The looks of excited anticipation on your grandchildren’s faces are so sweet. Black may not be your color, but this outfit is definitely your style. It doesn’t hurt to step outside the box every now & then. Blessings to all of you!

  23. Congratulations on your new grandson! We have 17 grandchildren now in their 20s and 30s. One is now 41! We have 14 great grandchildren ages 6 months to 16 years. Also my sons were career military men so the children were raised all over the globe and now live all over the country. Only two live in Colorado and are busy with their lives. We don’t see them very often. You are able to build a relationship with the grands that hopefully will last when they scatter in the pursuit of their own lives. I get text messages from them to keep up. Savor these moments while they are young. You looked great in your black and white outfit! You always glow with happiness and that is your true secret.

  24. Congrats to your son, DIL, and entire family!
It’s weird but I’ve been having the urge to step out of my color palette a little. I’m a winter but am really liking the ivory, beige, etc. colors. I’m thinking of small steps, like an ivory blazer or sweater over a white top and/or ivory pants with white, black, or navy top. In the “linen discussion,” some of the best linen I’ve seen is the Baird McNutt Irish linen at J. Crew — and they have black linen tops for those looking for them.

  25. I just took a tiny step, but ivory would be a better tiny step…shouldn’t have the shadows! Have fun with it!

  27. I know how that feels …three of ours live in another town. I wish we saw them more too.
