Winter Beauty Tips for Women over 50
Happy Thursday, friends! Today, I am sharing tested and enjoyed Winter Beauty Tips for Women over 50.
There is nothing in these winter beauty tips for women over 50 that are products giving me commissions.
These are winter beauty tips I have tested, have enjoyed and believe have benefitted me in this second half of life.
So, I do highly recommend the tips I am giving you today.
First, however, I want to say that I am praying for those in the California fires and for those In severe winter weather.
I hope everyone in this blog community is safe.
So, let’s get started and talk about that first picture today….
WINTER BEAUTY TIPS FOR WOMEN OVER 50: THE JELLY PEDICURE
TIP #1: EXPERIENCE THE JELLY PEDICURE
Years ago, I stopped looking at pedicures as a treat and more as a part of my overall healthy plan.
For me, trimmed nails and foot care has been very important
Since my foot surgeries last year, my nails have been through…let’s just say been through much change.
My new nail technician recommended the jelly pedicure to nourish and moisturize my feet.
The experience softens through a jelly-like solution that softens and exfoliates the skin.
It is a great winter experience all about warmth and relaxation.
This is the product my nail tech used…pouring it into the warm water for me to soak in.
The jelly-like solution feels a bit like warm applesauce…but once I got accustomed to it, wow, did it feel great.
I entered the salon from 28 degree weather and the overall pedicure was amazing
Parafin wax, hot towels, leg and foot massage is all a part of this pedicure.
In winter, our feet rarely see the light of day and stay in boots, socks, and shoes…all created for warmth, but often can lead to dry skin.
I was truly amazed at how soft my feet felt afterwards.
And don’t forget that most pedicures end with a pretty color…which uplifts most of us!
There are some jelly-pedicure solutions you can purchase online…but they do not come with the massages, wax, hot towels…the whole experience is the best.
WINTER BEAUTY TIPS FOR WOMEN OVER 50: MAGNESIUM
TIP #2: GET PLENTY OF WINTER BEAUTY SLEEP
This is a winter beauty tip that began in the fall for me.
When I went through this move to a new city and all that happened around it, I was not getting the sleep I needed.
That always affects my “beauty” and my attitude.
When I read about SWEET BEE ORGANICS MAGNESIUM BUTTER, I pondered it for awhile knowing that I was not taking a magnesium supplement.
As my sleep continued to be sporadic, I decided to give this a try…you can see in the picture I have been through one jar and beginning another
At the same time as I began to use this at night, I also began to regulate my sleep…go to bed at the same time and arise at the same time every night.
I do believe both of these have helped me considerably.
The improved sleep convinced me enough after using the Sweet Bee product that I needed to keep it going.
The founder of Sweet Bee recently wrote about winter sleep that after the holidays our bodies need to re-charge and experienced deeper rest.
That makes sense to me after a very exhausting holiday season this year.
Sweet Bee’s Founder ups her usage during the winter and puts it on her feet and shoulders day and night.
I will probably keep it to night, but like the idea of adding it to my shoulders.
I am considering adding their SACRED ROOT HEALING CHOCOLATE for a warm winter drink. I will let you know if I do.
WINTER BEAUTY TIPS FOR WOMEN OVER 50: VASELINE
TIP #3: OVERALL DRY SKIN CARE
OK…I know there are some of you who do not care for Vaseline…I recommend you skip this section.
I still believe as strongly about Vaseline for many usages as the father in My Big Fat Greek Wedding felt about Windex!
And my dermatologist in San Antonio agreed…her office stopped recommending antibiotic ointment on cuts and wounds and began to recommend Vaseline.
It is even more important to me in the winter when I am more likely to have dry skin after hot showers…love a hot shower, but I do not do this daily.
In the winter, I use Vaseline (love the one with Cocoa Butter) on skin tags (sadly I have many); on my heels at night or before putting on socks; and on my hands at bedtime.
I also use it lightly on my face under a scarf in winter wind. The winds blows in my new home more often than it did in South Texas.
Mr. B is a huge fan of Vaseline for skin.
I have shared before my early introduction to Vaseline. If I need to share it again, please let me know…if several ask, I will do it in the Sunday post.
WINTER BEAUTY TIPS FOR WOMEN OVER 50: HYDRATE MORE
TIP #4: HYDRATION IS KEY
This is definitely a winter beauty tip.
Often in the winter we forget about the need to hydrate because we often are not sweating as much as with warmer weather.
However, increase your hydration for your skincare and for your overall health. Winter should not mean decreasing water drinking.
The first thing I do EVERY morning is drink a large glass of water.
It is followed by another glass of water with my pro-biotic.
Then I can have coffee…which I love.
And I still drink COLLAGEN FOR HER in my coffee every morning. It was an instant game changer in my skincare when I began it a few years back.
I know for many of us it is cold right now and we just want to hunker down and live under a blanket.
But, the biggest winter beauty tip I can offer is to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND NOT NEGLECT SKINCARE FROM YOUR FEET TO YOUR HEAD.
You will not regret it and none of these tips are expensive. A jar of Vaseline and glass of water are about as low as you can go!
Let me know if you have any questions!
I hope to see your tomorrow…so until then….

One of my grandchildren was born with eczema and a dermatologist recommended Vaseline. It was much better than anything else and the eczema has gone now. He has since outgrown it, as the dermatologist said might happen.
I do not recall reading your introduction to this item, so please share it again. Thank you.
Thanks Irene! I will tell my intro to Vaseline in the Sunday post for you!
I’m a big fan of Vaseline, and it’s recommended by the dermatologists Doctorly on you tube, as well as my personal dermatologist. I use it under my eyes at night and wherever needed. I have -extremely- dry skin, and I glop on Cerave body butter right after my shower (when I’m still very moist), and also use jojoba oil on my skin to top the body butter. I even sometimes use the latter in my hair and scalp before I wash it. My best tip for those with fingertips that crack in the winter (or nasty hangnails) is jojoba oil. I warm it in a little jar because it feels nice that way, and soak my fingertips for about 5-10 minutes. It absorbs more quickly than most oils, and keeps my fingertips, nails and cuticles healthy. Dry, cold air is so hard on the skin.
Thanks for sharing your winter beauty tips, Linda. Soaking in the oil sounds wonderful right now.
I too do not remember your sharing about your using Vaseline so would be interested in that information. I rarely go to bed without putting Vaseline on my lips, but never put it anywhere else. For the majority of my life I wore contact lens so I am not in the habit of using lotion on my dry skin as I needed my hands “clean” if I needed to remove a contact. Now that I no longer wear contacts I’m trying to break that old habit and use more skin care products.
I will tell the Vaseline story on Sunday…I promise!
I suffer with eczema and since August I have been battling it around my eyes. The opthamalogist and my allergist have loaded me down with 3 different cortisone creams but Aquaphor is what works best. Very much vaseline based, and I don’t know the difference between Aquaphor and vaseline, but Aquaphor has been a lifesaver for me. I can use it safely around on my eyelids and under my eyes. We do not get cold weather here although it is cooler this time of year I don’t seem to get the dry, cracking skin I used to get when living in a cold climate.
Winter is definitely here in Wisconsin and my skin is very dry. It’s funny last week I was at my dermatologist and asked here what is a good lotion to use and she said Vaseline! I was very surprised so need to give it a try. I never heard of the one you suggested but I’m going to look for it.
Please share your earlier experiences using Vaseline now I’m curious.
This is a needed post for me today.
Hi Linda, Thanks for sharing this. Part of the story I will tell on Sunday is that I have been using Vaseline around my eyes for 53 years! I just calculated it! It is perfectly safe to use around your eyes…in my opinion..but it is always good to talk to your eye doctor or primary care and get their opinion!
Happy to help, Paula. I sitting at my desk right now watching big beautiful snowflakes fall…so I will use a bit more Vaseline this week.
Great tips! I’ve been considering a pedicure but thought it was more of a summer treat. You raise a great point about including it in your winter skin care routine. I was advised years ago to use Aquaphor on my daughter’s eczema and still use it on those awful cracks I get on my fingers in the cold weather. I just started using Vaseline on my lips. I feel like as I age my skin is thinner and much drier. I really do prefer to use more natural products and the Sweet Bee looks like something I would want to try. We’ve been struggling with very cold temps and awful wind for days on end here in the northeast.
Thanks for the tips!
Linda Ann
Stay warm, Linda. Thank you for joining in.
YES! – I love pedicure treatments, and also very much consider them to be part of a healthy feet and skin routine. My father has his as part of his health care at our local podiatry office, which is a lovely service they provide him. He always emerges with such a big smile on his face! My year-round skin routine is to slather the Johnson’s baby lotion (green bottle) with several pumps of aloe vera gel, right after my morning shower and again on my arms, neck and chest just before bed. On my face, I use the little jar of Garnier Skin Active Moisture Rescue. Then I mix a swipe of that in my palm with my foundation to create a nice, light wash of color.
I love Vaseline. Yes, my dermatologist gave it to me to use under a bandage over stitches. I slather it on my feet and lips. I just read that if you wear cologne, put a bit of it on those spots you spray or dab and the scent lasts longer. I drink water all day. If I am feeling fancy I put a tiny bit of cran-peach juice in it. My son lived in Korea for five years and turned me on to Korean honey citron tea. It comes in a jar (amazon) and looks like honey. You put a tablespoon in a cup of hot water, like regular tea. It looks like dishwater, but it’s yummy. You eat the bits of citrus pieces at the end. Self care!
I always leave with a smile on my face too! I get how he is feeling…Thanks Connie.
Thanks Deborah…the tea sounds wonderful!
So many great tips about Vaseline. Will try it as an under eye treatment tonight. For a real treat slather it on your feet at bedtime and put on white socks. In the morning your feet will be feel wonderfully smooth. Supposedly the same works for hand and thin white gloves like the ones they use at quilt shows. I haven’t tried it as I can’t sleep with gloves on. Looking forward to Sunday’s post.
Years ago I used Vaseline on my hands at night and then put on white gloves. I’ve used it on my feet, too, and wore white socks over them. It really works!
For years, I wouldn’t use Vaseline as I’d read that since it’s a petroleum product it was not safe. In the past year, I’ve seen many articles and videos declaring its safety and efficacy. Besides living in a dry and sometimes very cold climate, I’m genetically prone to dry skin, and have had hypothyroidism (low thyroid). I started using Vaseline on my legs and feet in the summer and it was the only thing that truly made a difference. I’ve recently started putting it on my face at night, after using serum and moisturizer. It’s noticeably improved my skin in just a few weeks. (It’s actually called “slugging”, I’ve recently learned). The concealer I use for dark circles under my eyes, no longer settles into the fine lines. I’m 63 years old.
I’m looking forward to reading about your journey with it, in your Sunday post!
It is very dry and cold here in Southern Colorado right now and well dry always. That is why it is called the high desert. I put Vaseline on my lips every night and often across my knuckles as they get so dry and crack. I’m interested in your story on Sunday as well. Our high is 32 degrees here and it is 32 degrees. No sun, just grey low clouds. The snow everywhere is pretty, especially looking up at the mountains. I slather Alba Botanical very emollient body lotion, original unscented all over my body right after my shower and after my daily birdy bath in between showers. My husband does too. We keep a 32 ounce bottle in both bathrooms for hands as well. I use advanced Clinicals hyaluronic acid lotion on my face. At 80 everyone can’t believe how pretty my fair skin is, but genes play a role as my mother was Swedish with blonde hair and fair skin. Her genes are strong all the way down to my great grandchildren. I’m grateful for the gift and have worked to keep it all of my life. Our skin is the largest organ on our bodies and it protects us as long as we protect it.
I slather it on my heels often…I would not want to give up my Vaseline!
I agree that it does, but now I may need to get some white gloves. I have trouble sleeping with socks for some reason. Thanks Beth.
Mr. B & I both started using it on our faces. I put it on around my lips and mouth area…and I have never heard the term slugging, but will look it up! Thanks Carolynn
Just read about slugging…apparently I have been doing this for many many years!
Your last sentence, Sydney is a good reminder for all.
I just returned from Urgent Care for a sinus infection and I had a wonderful doctor who educated me on the difference between Vaseline and Aquaphor. He told me Aquaphor contains petroleum and lanolin while Vaseline is just petroleum. Since many people have or can develop an allergy to lanolin he recommends Vaseline.
Thanks Linda…I hope you are feeling better! Sinus infections are no fun.
