Style Tips for Spring Outfits

Happy Friday!  Welcome to our first official Style Tips for Spring Outfits Friday!

I hope you read YESTERDAY’S POST setting up expectations for the Style Tips for Spring Outfits posts…and the first style tips were fun and helpful.

Yesterday’s ideas were great and some pretended to be stylists and style the look for someone else and suggest where it could be worn.

This is a way for you to help and inspire others if the outfit is not for you.

So, let’s keep it going today and look at this display by Bryn Walker at Dillard’s.

Many women have not been drawn to the designs at Bryn because of the oversized styles.

So, I am excited to show you this outfit…it is true to size.

Here is an example….

STYLE TIPS FOR SPRING OUTFITS: BRYN WALKER AT DILLARD’S

Most of you know that I am an XL right now after adding some weight after foot surgery…(I am on the right path and it is dropping! Yay!)

So, when I show you this size Medium on me, I do it as an example of how oversized Bryn Walker tops often are.

I have been drawn to the brand’s creative, funky garments for years, and I am excited to see them begin to offer looks with better fit.

The top is the Wilder Flori Print Viscose Jersey Round Neck Elbow Dolman Sleeve Tunic, and I grabbed it off the sale rack.

I saw it in the fall with the matching pencil skirt and it looked great on the woman wearing it.

But, today’s outfit features great fit, true to size pieces.

The cotton jersey top is the Cotton Jersey Round Neck 3/4 Sleeve Boxy Shirt in a bright color called sweetbriar.

And the Modal Ponti Floral Print High Waist Flare Leg Pants.

I was told these pants are thought to be a tropical floral print.

Remember…you are the fashion stylist!

How would you style it and where could it be worn?

Sometimes, it helps to look at other brands to get ideas for style tips.

  1. I think I would switch the red and black tops on the mannequins. I would prefer the black top with the black/white pants and the red top with the black top. I would add a silver or gold statement necklace or earrings to the black top. And I would add a scarf with black and red to the red top to give it some personality. A bunch of colorful bracelets would be great too.

  2. The black and white pants should be the star of the show. Red ballet flats or Mary Janes and minimal jewelry, such as a delicate silver chain necklace and pearl stud earrings. Add a crossbody white bag and you are ready to go to brunch.

  3. Glad I clicked on the link and learned that these cute floral pants are cream & black not black & white. Big difference to me and explains why to my eye the red top seems to be competing for attention I do like a red accent but I’d let the pants be the star. Instead of a red tee I’d go for a cream voile short sleeve blouse worn over a cream tank which give me the option of wearing the blouse open or buttoned. I’d go for cream sandals and a red cross body bag, a simple gold chain necklace and gold button earrings. And my favorite red wristwatch. Red lipstick is also a must with this outfit and I’m heading out for the First Friday Gallery Walk downtown.

  4. Aloha, Pamela and Ladies,
I am so excited to see your choices for resort wear today! I would definitely wear all of these beautiful options with a pretty sandal, and simple jewelry out to dinner. I love the red top with the black floral pant, and the Farm Rio selection as well! What I find interesting here since moving to the east side of the Big Island a year ago is that women here love wearing black, and hoodies! Honestly, it’s much too warm for such attire, but they wear it no matter the temperature! Sometimes we will take a small “staycation” at a boutique hotel on the west side of the island. It’s fun to watch the tourists dressed in their resort wear enjoying their time in Hawaii!

  5. Thanks for your research, Kathie! I love styling a look for the First Friday Gallery Walk …super fun.

  6. I see many young people wearing hoodies all year long…are they hiding? Not sure, but so glad you are able to watch tourists wear beautiful resort wear. Thanks for sharing Linda.

  7. The cream and black pants are the star. I also would switch out the red for cream in and soft silky material but simple. My tall friend Hannah could wear this with cream or black. She would wear dangling gold earrings and a large design necklace which would hang long with maybe a monkey hanging on a branch on it. Black or cream sandals and a straw woven cross body bag. She would wear a large straw hat to protect her very pale skin on her cruise to the Bahamas.

  8. For the featured outfit and not being sure of the pant’s fabric weight (as on the website shown with heavy footwear not sandals) for Spring wear I would be more apt to choose ‘a color-block formula’ with a plain (or trimmed) cream or black top in a fine/lightweight woven knit with footwear to match either and introduce a pop of color perhaps using a red patent-leather bag. Whereas for the top considering its fabric and design (cropped/elbow length sleeves/scoop neck/relax fit) would style it with plain bottoms that give a summer vibe as in a pair of casual chinos / denim or other fabric blend bottoms. Also depending upon the waistline style (plain/gathered/pleated/ and rise (high/mid or below waist) of the bottoms; to extend its length and/or introduce another color I might consider to even under-pin it with a longer/ crew neck top in a lightweight fabric. *Tip: Many t-shirt styles (tank tops included) can be worn backwards and work well for underpinning as described. Apologize for being sooooo long-winded and HAPPY FRIDAY to you Pamela!

  9. I like the combination of the red top and the floral pants. I would wear black pointed ballet shoes. I would like a combination of a watch and bracelets of white gold and a medium size hoop earrings. I would wear it for a breakfast date.
