2024 Fashion Trends: Double Breasted Jackets
Happy first Saturday in August, friends! It is time once again for more 2024 fashion trends and today is a focus on double breasted jackets.
2024 Fashion Trends have seen double breasted jackets…sometimes called military jackets…go through all seasons so far this year.
That is why you see them in almost all retailers.
Recently, I shared in the 2024 Fashion Trends: Cropped Jackets, and now we go to another one as we begin to think ahead toward fall.
Note: The Display Photo is a Veronica Beard Miller Dickey Jacket at Nordstrom. I have other price points in the slide show below.
So, let’s get started and think about the 2024 Fashion Trends: Double Breasted Jackets!
2024 FASHION TRENDS:DOUBLE BREASTED JACKETS: THINK JEANS
A confident, “uniform” look for me Is to wear blazers with jeans.
I am personally thrilled to have double breasted jackets in the 2024 fashion trends, because I own four…two from Banana Republic Factory, one from Chico’s, and one from Talbots.
I think a great polished, casual style is to wear jackets or blazers with my jeans and take them up a notch.
And it is so easy…I always add accessories to speak my creative style adjective as well. I cannot wait to style my new blazers with new scarves I have picked up in sales.
The jackets are available in all lengths (Crop to Boyfriend), materials (Linen to Wool), and styles (Blazers to Trench).
I am so glad I found this one in the Talbots Red Door Sale for cooler weather…it is sold out now.
I personally believe styles like this one with more buttons higher off the hips are more flattering and slimming.
Now, you can score on some great 2024 fashion trends, double breasted jackets on sale now and I have featured several in the 2024 Fashion Trends slide show today.
I must call out to you the first jacket in the slide show…what a great price and style in this double breasted blazer from Quince! Here is the slideshow:

I love blazers! As a small woman, I don’t own many double-breasted ones; they are just too large. I am still waiting for lapels to narrow again – sigh … They, too, do small women with small chests no favors. I love the cut-away look but wonder whether this is a short-term trend. I’m skeptical as to whether they are a good investment: what do you think?
I love double breasted blazers, and have been eyeing the Quince one. Because blazers are more expensive, I haven’t bought any while actively losing weight. But I recently bought two leather double breasted blazers in two colors from the consignment shop. However, I get really confused on fit. In some photos, the models are wearing these buttoned comfortably, on others it seems they would barely button if fastened, and on others they could never be fastened. Unless worn as outerwear, I would not button mine. What’s your take?
I personally think they are good investments. Classic blazers never go out of style and it seems that double breasted sticks around with different names…like military blazers. I have an older Ralph Lauren double breasted that has been in closet for years. The cropped double breasted would be worth trying on for smaller women…there are some on sale at good prices in the slideshow!
I usually don’t button a blazer of any kind. I just prefer the open look on me and buttoned feels too much like professional work style. I do think that Quince jacket looks like a really good one with a great price. It would probably look similar open to the blue Talbots one I am wearing in the picture…looks like a similar cut and I find that very flattering.
Love your slide shows focused on a particular style. This makes it so east to compare retailers, lengths, and details on a specific garment. There’s so much variety in blazers right now that I’m pretty sure I have a few that will fit right in. But that Quince one—so tempting!
I agree, Sharon! It is tempting!
I love blazers and like the look of the double breasted blazers. But I don’t feel then look good on me. I’m short with slightly narrow shoulders and a full bust so the military look doesn’t do me any favors. I bought a tweed double breasted blazer last year that I wore open, and wore only once. I think it overwhelms me as its very long. Perhaps I need to find a way to style it better as it is very pretty.
Thanks for sharing, Kathie. I would recommend you play with it more before moving it a long… you never know what you might discover!
That Old Navy blazer is a cute one for my fall and winter looks here in the northwest. I could see wearing that with shortie suede boots, slim jeans, a cream colored tee and a cute floral scarf. Okay, I’m talking myself into it! ☺️ Seriously ready to kiss summer goodbye as soon as possible. We are in for another stretch of 90+ temps this week, and there’s only so much iced tea and lemonade can help!
Meanwhile, Happy Saturday to all! 🌻
We are back to 100!! So I hear you!
Interesting discussion regarding buttoning. I purchased three Attitude Unknown double-breasted blazers this spring for $39 each. They are made of a scuba-type material. The blazers were recommended by Kellyann Rohr of This Blonde’s Shopping Bag. I have a big bust – 34F – and I am just under 5’4″. Most double-breasted blazers seem to swallow me. They are too long and make my legs, which are actually long for my height, look stumpy. The Attitude Unknown blazers look great on me unbuttoned in a size small. I can button the size small, but it looks tight. I did order a size medium to compare. It buttons easily, but looks too big everywhere except at the waist where it buttons. The sleeves are baggy, the shoulders too broad, i.e., the blazer swallows me. The small, when unbuttoned, looks really nice! The two sides of the blazer come to a point right at my waist making it look smaller. If I buttoned it, even if it were not too tight, I would lose the slimming effect.
So many pictures of models with blazers have the top tucked in. I like my tops untucked, and I probably tend to wear my clothes oversized. I noticed how nice you look with a tee not tucked in under the blazer. I think I will get some more fitted knit tops and a navy blazer.
I feel more confident with the tee untucked…fit is important!
I prefer mine unbuttoned. Glad you found a brand that fits you well!
An expert tailor is worth discovering! Tailors know how to make us appear more worldly, tall, slim, effortless, classy…or whatever our mental image (ha, in my dreams!). Think Amal Clooney, stylish in a paper sack because of a tailor, and wearing a smile. A blazer you love but that’s not quite right might benefit from a tailor vs more accessorizing. I prefer clean-lined nautical blazers, possibly somewhat-cropped length vs 1980s career length we wore with scarf ties, yikes. Today’s blazers say skip the busy scarves, jewelry, handbags and hair that undermine modern. I love Banana Republic’s blazer ads, however In central Arizona don’t see blazers, yet envy folks who wear them well. Thanks, Pam, for another fun, thought-provoking Saturday post.
Thank you for mentioning tailors! They can make such a difference. Good comment!
I like blazers. My favorite is always the navy whether double breasted or single. Jeans or slacks or over a casual dress, I like the look and wear blazers with them all.
I wish I could find a good tailor or seamstress! My pants that need shortening are a pile on my dresser, all pinned and ready. If only I could still sew! At 5’ 1 1/2” tall I have to shorten petites in my linen pants about two inches. My 2P jeans from Chicos are just right down to the top of my feet. I’m larger in the bust so I have to buy petite large which can swallow me. I prefer a single breasted blazer. Have had zero need for one here. My white jeans jacket looks dressed up for Cañon City, Colorado! But it is so much fun to dream. Pamela, you give me lots of dreams!
She do I …thanks Audrey!
Always glad to bring you dreams, Sydney!
In the past, I was told that women with larger busts shouldn’t wear double breasted blazers, but I am now questioning that bit of advice. Seeing some of the blazers that don’t button & hearing from you & others that they don’t button their blazers has me thinking I should take a look at some. The variety of lengths now available is also a plus as the very long ones don’t seem to be flattering on me. Thanks for providing so many options & giving me some food for thought.
You are welcome, Becky. I have large girls and one of the reasons I like blazers that one with good fit will actually minimize them!
How do you ladies feel about rolling up the sleeves on your blazers?
For me, I have rolled up sleeves on my linen blazers and occasionally scrounge them up on my knit and cotton blazers. Thirty years ago a stylist at Chico’s showed me how it is slimming my to roll and scrunch them up under the elbow.
As I live in a cool climate; regardless of the season jackets and blazers are a staple in my wardrobe. As to their style I do avoid those with a higher count of four buttons so as not to compete with my jewelry and due to lack of quality I’ve been known to even replace them. Plus having lost some height in my torso area, there is the issue of placement in the bust area. Also I much prefer a conventional notched collar to one whose peaks are an up-swept that are often common on six-plus button styles. As to styling them; it depends upon their cut/design as to whether worn open or closed and or their underlay. -Brenda-
Tip: For light to medium weight fabric, clear spiral/coil type hair ties/scunchies work well for ruching up sleeves.
I love that you brought up competing with jewelry…excellent point!
